Kimi and Sara have always been the best of friends. They do everything together and have a lot in common. They also have differences though. For example Kimi has black hair and sara has brown. Kimis favorite color is blue while Sara's favorite color is are green. Kimi is really neat and tidy. Sara is messy and sloppy.

ACHOO!

Whenever Kimi sneezes or coughs she covers her mouth and washes her hands. Sara however, never covers her mouth or washes her hands! Gross! Sara should learn to do that so she doesn't get other people sick!

One day Sara decided to come over to Kimi's house to play even though she was sick. As they were playing Kimi was sneezing coughing all over her hands. Since she didn't wash or sanitize her hands

These tiny invisible things called germs got all over the toys they were playing with.

The icky germs then transferred to kimis hands. She forgot to wash her hands after playing and began to rub her eyes and nose. This had let pathogen or germs into her body. These germs had caused her to get sick. Rubbing her nose had cause the germs to go in directly past the nose hair which was supposed to stop the invader.

After awhile of playing Sara went home and Kimi got ready for bed. When her mom went to tuck in Kimi she noticed she had a high temperature. Kimi didn't know this yet but some of those germs from her body had gotten through and now there was a big fight going on in her body. Her high temperature had been caused by little things called pyrogens that swim through your blood stream when you get sick

These pyrogens in her body had given her a fever. The fight in her body has begun as Kimi's immune system tries to fight back the bacterium. The nonspecific defenses have been breached. The immune system in a 3rd line of defense. The first being the skin. Skin is a physical and chemical barrier. Since the bacteria was brought up straight through the nose and eyes the skin did not have a chance to stop the foreign invader. So now its the immune system's job to get rid of the bacteria infecting Kimi.

So the immune system consists of different mechanisms and agents to get rid of the invaders. So b-cells and T-cells are able to take care of the germs. The b cells create antibodies that fight against the bad viruses but stopping them from being able to move or even destroy it, while the T cells directly attack the virus and bacteria. So inside Kimi's body these white blood cells are doing the best to get rid of the bacteria.
