The main character from this book was a real person. Anne Frank was born on June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany. As Hitler rose to power, Anne and her family were forced to move to the Netherlands due to their Jewish beliefs. While there, they had to hide in a secret attic. This upset Anne a lot, as she wanted to go outside and enjoy her childhood. Unfortunately, they were eventually discovered, arrested, and taken to concentration camps. Sadly, Anne died while at a concentration camp, along with everyone in her family accept her dad, Otto. In total, 6 million Jews died during the holocaust. Eventually Otto was allowed to return home, where he published Anne diary, which she had consistently written in throughout their hiding. This diary became very popular worldwide, and helped many people see what it was really like for Jewish people during World War II.
