In 1773, America looked a lot different than it does now. America was a colony of Great Britain, and it followed the rules of the British government.
During this time, Britain passed The Stamp Act, which allowed the British East India Tea Company complete control over tea sales to the colonies, and added taxes on common items. Taxes make the prices of things more expensive.
1.a.Samuel Adams went to the store to buy a two boxes of tea. Each box cost $2.50 each. After taxes, were added he had to add .50 cents to each box. How much was his total after taxes were added?
1.b, .Samuel Adams handed the cashier a ten dollar bill. How much money will the cashier give him back? How do you know?

The Stamp Act angered many colonists. Fed up with the taxes on tea, a secret group of people called "the Sons of Liberty" met to discuss what should be done.
On December 16th, 1773 three ships docked in America carrying 342 crates of tea.
2. If the first ship carried 107 crates of tea, and the second ship carried 86 crates of tea, how many crates of tea did the third ship carry? Explain your reasoning.

Once the ships had docked, and it was dark. The Sons of Liberty met to carry out their plan, they dressed in disguises, some dressed like Indians.

They went to the Boston Harbor and dumped all 342 crates of tea.

Naturally, the King of England was very upset, he shut down the Boston Harbor, and ordered more men from Britain to watch over the colony.

3. The Stamp Act was created in 1765, the Boston Tea Party occurred in 1773, and America declared their independence in 1776, using the number line, how many years went by between the creation of the Stamp Act and America declaring their independence?
Although this act of patriotism caused more problems for the colonists at the time. The Boston Tea Party was an important part of American History. It was a key event in the American Revolution!
