Ephesians 2: 8 &9 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Human dancing is old.
1.Early dance: A means of social communication and bonding
2. As folk celebrations
3. In ceremonies and rituals
4. As a method of healing
5. As a method of expression

We want to turn our attention however, to biblical types of dancing. Dance, danced or dancing is mentioned in the Bible ( KJV ) 27 times. The first mention is in Exodus 15:20 & 21.
20 And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.
21 And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
We notice right away that this is a victory celebration over the enemies of God.

It's interesting to observe in the old testament how the men of the tribe of Benjamin chose their wives.
Judges 21:23 And the children of Benjamin did so, and took them wives, according to their number, of them that danced, whom they caught: and they went and returned unto their inheritance, and repaired the cities, and dwelt in them.

In the New testament we see Jesus Christ giving an illustration related to the dance.
Matthew 11:17 And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.

Of course there seems to always be a positive and a negative in everything, and this stands true in our study of the dance.
6 But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod. 7 Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask. 8 And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger. 9 And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her. 10 And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison. ( Matthew 14:6-10)
.
2 Samuel 6:14-16 14 And David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod 15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.
16 And as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal Saul's daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart
David's wife mis- judged his motive for joyful glee before his Lord! ( underlining by author)

The moral of our story? If our motives are correct we might dance a victory dance dedicated to the Almighty creator God! We should remember however, improper actions have no place in a true believers life. As we saw king Herod give orders to elimate a man because of an ungodly type dance.

Addendum - A king is coming to this earth to collect his subjects. Who are his subjects? All those who have trusted him by faith. This is called the rapture of the church. Those who are born again will meet this King Jesus in the air. Will you be going or staying? Romans 10 : 9 & 10 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
