This book is the key to finding the life of the Hitler
youth program and its youth

How did the Hitler Youth begin ?
The Hitler Youth Program began in 1923
by the National Socialist German Workers
party, or NSDAP. The Hitler Youth was a form
of an earlier military unit called the
Wandervogel. This group was like the Boy
Scouts of America. The group, when it first
started had about 1000 members which might
seam like a lot, but in 1933 over 2,300,000
youth had joined.

How did people find out about the Hitler youth?
At first the Hitler youth was a slow moving
organization. A newspaper named the Volischer
Beobachter released a statement from Hitler,"We
demand that the NSDAP youth, and all other young
Geman, irrespective of class whose hearts are
affected by the suffering and hard ships affecting
the fatherland, and who desire to join the ranks of
the fighters against the Jewish enemy, the sole
organization of our humility,shame ,and
suffering,join the Hitler youth."

In May 1923 Lenk ,the
leader of the youth
published a magazine
which turned out to be a
money waster. He was
shunned by Hitler and his
friends. He was eventually
removed from office and
replaced by Gruber.

What did the Youth have to do to get into the
group?
Any youth wanting to join the program had to go through
a 3 week course of training and physical challenges.Boys
would be tested in running ability, throwing skill,
swimming capability, and gymnastics. Boys also
endured a 3 day hike, and a courage test in which
they had to jump from 2 stories into water.Girls also
took a 2 hour hike through the rough back country.
Any youth that proved to be in good health, teeth, no
debt, tough, physical, and no shorter than 5 feet 9
inches were put into the pre-ss youth .

Was everyone affected by the Hitler youth?
Dec. 1 ,1936, Hitler passed a law stating that all
German youth must be taught in the ways of physical,
intelligent ,and nationalism. The law also stated parents
who stopped their child from joining the youth would be
placed with heavy jail time and in some cases permanent
removal from children. The law also banned all other
youth programs in Germany. The Gov. also insured all
educators were part of the national socialist workers
party. Teachers were taught to tell youth that Aryan was
the Superior race. Schools were subject to Hitlers control
. The youth set up camps that whole schools had to
attend as a training and orientation to the Hitler
youth.Over 120 were run by youth them selves an 44
were run by the ss soldiers.in

What did the youth do for fun?
The Hitler youth were very restricted in the
amount of fun they could have so, they used
their jobs to have fun. In the Flieger HJ,part of
the air force, youth would partake in gliding
competitions. They could also take rides in
bombers.
