Dedicated to the middle elephant. My self professed "middle child, only girl, redheaded, born in the year of the dragon" daughter.

I chose to write a story based on the fairy tale The Three Little Pigs. It has been a favorite since childhood and my interest has been renewed again and again as a parent, teacher and now librarian. This story has such classic elements, it sets itself up to be fractured. Many authors have tried their hand with this tale and created fun and hilarious versions. While mine is not intended to leave anyone in a ball of laughter on the floor, it is intended to point out the potential accomplishments of girls and remind them of what is possible.
Once upon a time in the not so long from now future, three brilliant elephant friends lived in Pelicon Valley.

Each of the elephants had been to graduate school and were successful inventors. The girls, Maddie, Lucy and Bella were friends and met for coffee every Saturday to talk about new ideas they had and share their successes with past inventions. They loved sharing and discussing their old inventions and new ideas and taking notes.

One Saturday, they noticed a strange mouse pretending to read his ipad but often looking up to glance at the trio. His name was Igor. For the next three Saturdays, Igor came to the coffee shop and sat in the same seat.

On the fourth Saturday it just so happened that Lucy had a conference in Paris, so the girls skyped their coffee chat.

Igor waited at the coffee shop and grew angry. He had been eavesdropping for weeks and was about to learn some of their secrets. Being a spy for the Grabbensteal Idea Corp., it was his job to learn their secrets and everything about them. So, as it happened, he knew where they lived.

He headed first to the house of elephant #1, Maddie Mindstrong. Maddie was an engineer with Peanuts R Us, a company that manufactures steel peanuts used to construct hurricane worthy buildings. The steel peanuts were latches that connected internal beams and assured a sound building. Igor wanted the secret to these peanuts NOW.

He had been spying for what seemed like forever, trying to learn something, anything! He went to Maddie’s house to politely ask for the secret to the peanuts, since spying wasn’t working. He offered her $1,000,000. “I know you have the plans and the plans must be mine. Maddie did not open the door; her ideas were not for sale.

Through the locked door she bellowed, “no spies, no tricks, this lock I’ll not unclick.” Igor responded, “then I’ll crunch and I’ll crash, turn your house into trash.” Maddie did not open the door, so Horacio pulled out his laser destructor, but the house was solid. Maddie called 911 but just as the police were approaching, Igor teleported away.
