Today was not just any ordinary day.
Today was Valentine’s Day!
That was all I could think about as I got ready.

"I cannot wait for all of the treats I am going to eat today!!"

After gobbling up our breakfast pancakes soaked in extra syrup, I headed out to the car with my sister, Carli.

Racing our parents to the car, Carli and I shared activities that we hoped to see in our classroom today.

At school, laughter and excitement were spilling out of each car as parents were saying goodbye to their children.

As I walked into Mrs. M's classroom, I grabbed a pair of heart-shaped glasses and took a seat next to my excited classmates.

All of a sudden, the loud of the
classroom's intercom interrupted our Valentine's Day party.

I felt every eye in the classroom turn to me. The voice belonged to our principal, Mrs. Smith.
“Mrs. M, can you please send Emily to the front office? Thank you.”

I immediately locked eyes with my teacher.
She was grinning!
Mrs. M never smiled when one of her students was called to the principal’s office.

As I exited the classroom, my face was blank and my stomach was turning.
I began to think of everyday leading up to this and the possible reason for the office request.
What could I be in trouble for?!

As I walked down the hallway, I saw my sister. I noticed that her face mimicked my feelings.

The journey, which usually took two minutes, felt like twenty.

“Yeah! But, I haven't done anything!”
“Wait, did you get called to the office too?”

As we stepped into the front office, Carli and I saw BOTH of our parents standing next to Mrs. Smith.
Mom filled out the sign-out sheet as Dad headed to the front doors. Everyone was smiling, but Carli and I still wore faces of confusion.

"Enjoy!"

There were no answers from my parents after we questioned where we were going, just smiles.
