This book is dedicated to the wonderful people who made up Hansel and Gretel

Once upon a time ,
There lived a old tired mother with three children whose names are Sophie, Isabelle and Rosie. They also lived with their Aunty. These girls where poor and had to collect food for breakfast and lunch. But at dinner the girls collected vegetables and normally there Mum would go out deep to the woods to look for dead animals to eat.

One day, Sophie (who was only four) overheard her Mum and Aunty talking about her and her sisters! Her Mum said "This is a catastrophe!"
"Yes I know. Perhaps we could get rid of the children?"
"Of course not! They're too valuable!"
"Well if they're that valuable would you rather starve to death knowing they weren't happy?"

"Ok, you're right." said the Mum.
"Tomorrow, leave them in the Gum tree forest!" said the Aunty.
The Mum sighed. She didn't want to leave her children but her sister's persuasion had got to her. Sophie was so surprised she almost fell down! Then she ran to tell the others. But the only sister she could find was Rosie and then Rosie saw her panting and asked " Whats wrong sis?

"I overheard Mum and aunty said that they're going to get rid of us." panted Sophie
"Mum would not agree with this!" said Rosie
"Would so," said Sophie
"Fine, fine." said Rosie, and stormed off.

The next morning Sophie, Isabelle, Rosie, the evil auntie and the mum went out into the forrest to get some firewood. The mum was looking sad, but the evil auntie was looking very evil.
They stopped in a small clearing surrounded by plant life. The mum told them to stay there and then the adults went off into the forrest. The sisters were left alone and soon they fell asleep.

They awoke to the squawking of cockatoos, laughing of kookaburras and carolling of magpies. The girls could tell it was nearly bedtime.
Then a white cockatoo flew by. It landed on a branch, lifted up it's wing and somehow seemed to squawk, "come with me and I'll show you to a cottage in the woods. I don't know who lives there but it's shelter." and off it flew with the girls right behind it.

Then the girls and the cockatoo came across a cottage. While the cockatoo flew away the girls were examining the cottage.
They were about to knock on the door when a witch, in disguise as a young woman, jumped out and said, "I'm sorry to scare you young ones, did I frighten you?"
Isabelle said "Yeah, kind of"

"Well I am so sorry. To show you how sorry I am, come inside and I'll give you some food. Anyway, even if I didn't scare you, you'd be more than welcome because you look so tired and sleepy. Why don't you stay the night? Also you're welcome to stay as long as you like." said the witch
"Thank you!" said Isabelle and Rosie
"But Mummy said not to listen to strangers" said Sophie

"Sis, it's shelter. Plus it's probably food too." said Rosie.
"Yeah, besides, we have nowhere else to go" said Isabelle.
"Fine" said Sophie "but don't blame me if she's an evil witch."
Rosie and Isabelle started to laugh really hard
"hahahahaha!" So they went inside and had a beautiful meal, then went to bed

The next morning the witch was starting to show her inner self. Just how did she do that? Well, I'll tell you.
She grabbed Isabelle out of the bed and locked her in a cage. Luckily Isabelle found a bone and had an idea for using it as a finger, because like her sister, she too had read Hansel and Gretel. SO she used it as the finger that Hansel used to trick the witch, because witches have very poor eyesight. So she would see the bone as a finger.

As the witch was carrying her off Isabelle said "Hey! I thought you were a nice witch."
"Ha! You're finally catching up." Then you already know about the dropping in the cage part, so I'm going to leave that out.
Once Isabelle found the bone in the cage, she said "I've got to tell the others" and tried to yell but she couldn't. So she said to herself "Hey, why can't I yell?"
"Ha! My spell is working." said the witch.
