To the Middle School students of Northwood School

There once was a teenaged girl named Orion who lived on the northern shores of Lake Superior. Orion had an ordinary life; she was a part of an ordinary family of four, she went to an ordinary Middle school, and her life went on day to day just like any other ordinary person. Little did she know, Orion wasn't actually that ordinary. The truth was, she possessed the power of time travel.
She just didn't know it yet.......

On a frigid day in January when the wind blew harder than usual, Orion got off the bus after school and started to walk down her driveway towards home. Suddenly, she stopped dead in her tracks. She had a compulsion to turn around and walk towards the lighthouse at the end of the pier on the lake. Orion had always avoided the old abandoned lighthouse because it was thought to be haunted. But she felt a strong chord, like an invisible hand, pulling her away from her house. Against all logic, she shuddered against the frosty air blowing off of Lake Superior and made her way to the end of the pier. Her legs shivered uncontrollably as she rubbed her hands together to make the tingling numbness go away.
"What am I doing here? This is insane, I should just go home!" Orion muttered to herself as the cold began to make her bones ache. But she couldn't shake the feeling that she needed to be in that exact spot at that exact time. She studied the tall lighthouse in front of her; it hadn't been used in well over a hundred years and was in desperate need of repair. The redstone tower loomed above her like a gatekeeper standing guard. All of a sudden, a light quickly flickered on and off again at the top of the tower. Was that my imagination? Orion thought as chills ran down her spine. As Orion looked out on the cloudy horizon, she could hardly believe her eyes. The day had instantly given way to dusk as a giant moon began to rise and fill up the sky.

An unfamiliar force of energy began to surge through her body, rising up through the floor. I've got to get out of here! Orion thought, but she couldn't move. The energy had increased, forcing her feet to be firmly planted in place. As she tried to break herself free, the light at the top of the tower burst open in a blinding light. In an instant, all went black.
When Orion came to, she was lying at the foot of the lighthouse. Everything was blurry and she couldn't hear anything. What happened to me? Was I hallucinating from the cold? I need to get home, my parents are probably worried about me. She blinked her eyes as the images she saw began to come into focus. What she saw startled her. Where the old, run-down tower had once stood, a brand new lighthouse was now standing.
