Hermias father wants her to marry Demetrius. Hermia wants to marry Lysander.

Hermia refuses to marry Demetrius, her father gives her three options. Option one was Hermia marries Demetrius, option two being that she can marry neither of them and become a nun, option three being she can marry Lysander but she would be killed.

Herima was thinking about her options when Lysander though of a brilliant plan. His plan was to sneak away at night to his aunts house where the Athenian law could not touch them. And they would get married there. This plan was perfect but Helena which is Hermias friend heard the plan and told Demetrius.

Hermia and Lysander ran off together in the woods.

Demetrius was following them because he claims his love for Hermia. Helena was trying to stay with Demetrius but he kept telling her that he didn't love her and that he would strike her to prove thathe did not love her.

As the lovers sleep Oberon and Titania argue about the little Indian boy. Oberon wants the boy to be his slave but Titania loves her stolen boy like her own son, and says that she wouldn't give the boy up for all of fairy land

Oberon tells his fairy Puck to put the love juice on Demetrius eyes therefore when he awakes he will see Helena and will fall in love with her instead of Hermia. And while Puck does that Oberon will put the love juice in the eyes of Titania therefore she will fall in love with the first thing she sees and forgets about the boy.

Puck goes off to find Demetrius and sees Lysander sleeping next to Hermia. Puck not knowing who is who puts the juice into Lysanders eye. Puck leaves and sees Bottom so he puts a donkey head on him but Bottom doesn't know this. Puck then goes to Titania to place the juice in her eyes.

When Lysander awakes he sees Helena and falls in love with her because of the love juice. When Titaina awakes she sees Bottom with the donkey head and falls in love with him.

Helena thinks that Lysander is mocking her because she thinks he still loves Hermia. When Oberon finds out about this he is outraged because Puck was supposed to put the love juice in Demetrius eyes. So he tells Puck to put juice in Demetrius eyes and when he awakes both of the boys will love Helena. But that doesn't make things right all the lovers all still fighting.
