To the person who pushed me to write something everyday, even if it was just a paragraph.

"The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing."
Before the story, there was a poem:
I heard about the mermaid
The one that was born on land
Her soul fell onto the earth
She missed the sea and touched the sand
A mermaid who doesn’t swim
One who walks on legs and falls to her knees
Never knowing what’s down under water
She charms the world with her way of being
But she knows non of that
The lack of knowledge is a sin
If anything she thinks so little of herself
She doesn’t see the magic within
She feels like an outsider
Probably because she is
She’s a fiction to the world
She’s an angel with fins
Watching the movies and reading the stories
Wouldn’t it be great to belong to the sea?
Walking mermaid, you were cheated
They took away who you were meant to be
But one day you’ll find that same magic
You’ll share it in the stories you write
The world will see what’s been missing
They’ll see besides humans, there’s more to life
But maybe you’ll decide that the world isn’t ready
Or maybe they’ll decide that for themselves
But you'll keep writing stories
That for now will stay on the shelf
Ah, yes. I’ve heard about the mermaid
The one born on land
I know just how she sees herself
I know that right now she doesn’t understand
How many people love her
How everything could soon be great
Though she doesn’t belong among humans
She’ll stay apart of her world by the magic she creates
The mermaid in the puddle

When I was very young I saw a beautiful mermaid. She wasn't in a storybook or a movie, she was real.

I was in the 3rd grade when I first saw her. That day it was raining but I wanted to bring my mommy pretty flowers.

I went down the long road because it had the prettiest flowers in the neighborhood. When I finally grabbed enough I ran home .

I was excited to give them to my mommy but I fell and dropped the flowers and my umbrella.

When I reached for my flowers a hand came towards them too, right out of the puddle.

I jumped back but I was not scared of the hand. Soon the body that belonged to it appeared and it was a mermaid.

She thanked me for the flower and asked me to approach her. She spoke sweet words I didn't understand and I found myself falling asleep. But I felt a warmth spreading around me and I noticed my clothes and my hair were completely dry even though it was still raining. s
