This is dedicated to Mr. Hoffman H block Civics.

It was the first day of kindergarten for Adrianna Grace, she dreamed of this day all summer; Dreaming that she would finally find a best friend. She hopped off of the bus and stepped foot into her new school that smelled of Adrianna Grace. The day was finally beginning and she was sitting at her table with a group of other young nervous kids.

“Max” The teacher called out
“Here “ He responded back.
“John” The teacher called out
“Here “ He responded back.
“Ally”The teacher called out
“Here “ She responded back.
"Maya”The teacher called out
“ Here “ She responded back.
“Adrianna Grace" The teacher called out.

Everyone started laughing and whispering to the people next to them.
She was so sad because all of the children in the classroom’s names were short. The rest of the day was a blurry memory as she was embarrassed and tried avoiding everyone around her.

Adrianna Grace ran off the bus crying and slammed the door shut on the way into her house.
“Honey what’s wrong,” Adrianna Grace blocked out her mother’s calls and walked straight into her room, once again closing the door with a loud bang.
Once in Adrianna Grace's room she laid on the bed and thought about the day.
“ I wish that I could change my name to ( ), “ she thought.

The Saturday after the first week of school Adrianna Grace decided to make a change. It wasn’t fair, parents get to name their children without the approval of the CHILD, the one who is stuck with the name. She climbed out of bed early that morning and dressed herself with her orange yellow sun dress and headed out on the neighborly streets.
Adrianna Grace reached the tall building with big glass doors. Amused by the appearance of the building she stepped foot inside and walked up to the lady at the front desk. She was much shorter than the desk so she reached her hands up on it and stood on her tippy toes.

“Excuse me ma’am?” she quietly said. The old gray haired lady wobbled on over to the other side of the desk, therefore she could see Adrianna Grace.
“Uh shouldn’t you be at home, with parents?” The old lady rudley remarked.
“I just wanted to talk to our state representative please,” she said looking down at her feet.

“Go back home, he is very busy and doesn’t have time for childish games.”
Adrianna Grace started walking out of the building, very hurt that she got turn down until she heard a voice.

“Why did you turn this young lady to go?” The state representative began walking up to Adrianna Grace, “hi, what’s your name?” He asked.
“Adrianna Grace”
“That’s quite a long name.”

“That’s the issue,” she mumbled under her voice.
“What made you come all this way Adrianna Grace”
“Well I want to pass a law please.”
“Now what may this law consist of.”
“Well you know it isn’t fair that parents get to choose the kids name and the kid doesn’t get any say. We can be stuck with the worst name everrrrrrrrr. We should be allowed to chose our own names."

“How about this, I can propose a bill in order to get votes to allow you young fellas to have a say in your name, but must I ask why you want to have a law like this?”
“I hate my name. I want my name to be Adrianna Grace.”
“I think you have a very beautiful name, you should not be worried about changing it.”
"But I want to do this.”
“Okay well I’ll try my best but you should get on home before your parents start to worry,” he patted her on her back and they were both on their way.

For the next couple of days the state representative was researching and writing a proposal to make this girls dreams come true. He made a proposal that stated that at a reasonable age, children should be allowed to change their name to what they want thus giving each individual the freedom to what they like.

The next Monday, Adrianna Grace was back at school. Being proud of her accomplishment, she wanted to brag to the whole class.
“Mrs. Johnson can I make an announcement please?” she politely asked.
“Of course. Class listen up Adrianna Grace has an announcement,” the class once again laughed at the sound of her name.
