I dedicate this book to Morgan and Ashley because they make science amazing.

It's a sunny day in Cleveland, Ohio and John is working hard to perfect his ideas to make something amazing because he is an entrepreneur that will soon create an oil company.
"But what exactly is John doing?" said Jill

John has big plans for his new innovation. John is going to create many oil drills that can power the world. His drills went down 69 ft in the ground and pumped the oil back up to the surface.
When the oil was on the surface it was heated up under multiple circumstances sometimes under pressure, other times it was burned.
John ran into some problems though. Sometimes the pumps to receive oil were clogged, so the pipe was cleared out with nitro glycerin a very explosive material
"I can't wait for this oil company to be created, it sounds amazing but this will be hard to afford".

John is going to raise capital. John needs capital from friends and family so he had enough money to start his business. Some people that invested in John include Henry Flagler, and John's younger brother William. He needed capital to build the oil pumps, and create oil barrels.

"Why did John want to start his business?"
Many things caused John to want to start his Standard Oil Company business.
Before Edwin Drake and the Standard Oil Company oil was very expensive because often it came from whales. Rarely people could easily buy this. If the oil came from the ground it did not come in big bunches like modern oil is extracted.
Another cause of the Standard Oil Company was the successful oil drill that Edwin Drake created. If Edwin Drake did not figure out how to drill oil from the ground Rockefeller would never be able to create his big company. Also important, Edwin Drake did not patent his idea which secures that nobody else will take his idea leaving the opportunity for the creation of his company.
"I did it, I struck oil from the ground America"

The last major cause of the Standard Oil Company was a need for a more reliable oil source that could be transported across the country. The oil drill was the source that could always produce oil and it was just what Rockefeller needed

"Don't get too excited yet Mr. Drake"
Soon after creating his Standard Oil Company business John Rockefeller didn't just become one of the most wealthy people, but he had almost a complete monopoly over the oil business. He became very rich due to the high profit he made and his smart business skills. The oil he pumped was used for kerosene lamps, a lubricant, industrial processes and later as gasoline to power cars.

"Wow, how amazing"
After the monopoly John had over oil the antitrust laws were created. These laws help to ensure there is competition between items and they also help to ensure people have multiple choices to get a product best for them.
