Teenagers

The house was full of people. Family members, friends, people from around the neighborhood that didn't know us well but still come by to wish me and my twin sister a happy 16th birthday. People were scattered inside the house and outside. But not me and kierra. As we sat upstairs in my room, while the door was shut, I asked "Are you ready to do this?" she looked back into my eyes with tears ready to burst out. "Yeah shay. I'm tired of this. I'm sick of it shay. We're gonna do this now or not at all." I got up and walked over to the window, standing right next to her.
There he stood flipping over ribs on the BBQ grill, laughing and talking with his friends as if he was the perfect man. They didn't know the other side of him. "I miss daddy." kierra said, breaking my thoughts. I looked over at her and she finally shed a tear. "I know kierra. I do too, we all do." She shook her head, "Not momma. How she gonna marry another man 4 years after daddy died?!" She turned back to the window just in time to see momma stand next to tyson... Our step-father.
"Look at this. She's all boo'd up with him, that's beatin' her own daughters like it's cool and everything." She began pacing the room. I walked over to my bed and sat down, rocking back and forth as I clinched my pillow, We're finally getting ready to do it. We were leaving and there's no looking back.
The party started winding down as kierra and I stood in the kitchen, peeling though envelopes we got as gifts hoping there would be money to help us. Kierra's boyfriend came in and took a deep breath.
When everyone else left he finally spoke. "Ya'll ready to do this?" He looked at the gifts while asking. "Yeah, we're ready." I looked up at him. He knew what we had went through and was willing to help. "Aight. Whenever ya'll are ready just come to the car and we'll go." He took a piece of cake on his way out. I counted all the money out of the envelopes. "$435 dollars." I said. Kierra shook her head "It was at least 50 people and this is all we got?'' I opened my mouth to talk but closed it when tyson walked into the kitchen.
Kierra looked at him as if she wanted to fight. I moved backwards as he stepped closer to the table. "Where the hell ya'll two been all night?'' He knocked some of the gifts off of the table. When neither of us answered he took it as if it were a sign of disrespect. "So, ya'll can't hear me?" He walked closer to us. "I said where have ya'll been all night? Half of the family is here and ya'll off somewhere doin' ya'll own thing. People came for ya'll not just to sit and eat. Now where. The hell. Were ya'll?"
As he stepped forwards, I took steps backwards tumbling over a chair. Kierra caught me before I could fall. "We don't have to answer to you. Your not our father." She said, as his breath increased. His eyes grew wide and big as he yelled, "What the hell you just say to me?" He pushed chairs to get to us. Once he was close enough I pulled kierra and ran up the stairs. "It's time shayla. Something is gonna happen tonight." She said while looking out the window. "Come on! Pack! We can talk about it later."
She shook her head and said, "Just remember that no matter what... I love you. I'll be right back." I looked at her confused "What? Kierra-" She cut me off. "Just stay here!" She left the room, closed the door behind her and left. I shook my head and walked back to the bed and layed down. Before I knew it, I'd fallen asleep. Around 1:48 am, I've woken up. The house was quiet as I looked around then decided to see if kierra was back. Where are you? I thought to myself as I walked down the hallways towards her room.
Caught off guard I see tysons figure right by her doorway. I jumped backwards when I saw him, bumping into the wall and knocking a picture down. "You scared me!" He stared then looked down, picked up the picture noticing a crack. "You better fix this to! "Only thing I could see was the white in his eyes from the darkness. "Have you seen keirra?" I asked rubbing my arm. "Get back to your damn room." I wrinkled up my eyebrows, while I tried to walked past but he pushed me. Causing me to knock into the wall again.
