Who is Barack Obama?
On August 4,1961 Barack was born in Indonesia, however, he grew up in Hawaii. His parents met at the University of Hawaii when they were 18 years old. Ann Dunham, a white American from Kansas, and Barack Obama Sr., a black Kenyan. His mother moved a lot as a young child. She was adopted her mother was from Hawaii and her father was from Indonesia.
Barack Obama Sr. received a scholarship from Harvard and relocated from Hawaii to Boston, unfortunately he did not have enough money to relocate his family. The couple divorced two years later and Ann Dunham fell in love again with a man named Lolo Soetoro.
Childhood
From age six through ten, Obama lived with his mother and stepfather in Indonesia, where he attended Catholic and Muslim. In Indonesia, Barrack, went on lots of adventures. Barrack's family moved back to Hawaii at when he was 9. In 1971 his younger sister, Maya was born. They were exactly 10 years apart. Maya later became a high school teacher.
Barrack moved back to Hawaii, with his grandparents to complete High School at Punahow Academy Preparatory school. While his mother, stepdad, and sister resided in Indonesia. During his high school years he played basketball and learned leaderships skills.
Obama's Challenges
Barrack enjoyed learning, however, he never felt excepted by his peers, never left like he fit in with the other kids. He wanted to learn more about the American culture. He began drinking beer, smoking cigarettes, marijuana, and getting in trouble. He thought that he knew more about his culture trying to be"tough and cool" his grades started dropping from straight A's to C's.
Then he received a phone call hearing that his birth father had died in a car accident. He reflected on his lifestyle and his future. In 1988, Obama left Chicago and traveled to Kenya to learn more about his birth father. He learned the challenges and scarifies that his father endured as child when he visited Kenya.
His father grew up in poverty, without clean running water and limited shelter. He did not have any wants only needs to survive.
Education Journey
After returning from Kenya, he applied to get into Occidental College, in Los Angeles, California. Even though his grades had dropped he still was able to enroll. This is where he made his first public speech. Although, he engaged in college activities, Obama quickly transferred to Columbia University in New York City in his junior year. Obama later went to, and graduated from, Harvard Law School.
After graduation, he became a civil rights attorney and professor, and taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004.
