There once was a rabbit named Rain,
who lived with his mother on the banks of the
Tennessee River. One day Rain asked,
"Mother, why is my name Rain?"
"It was raining hard the night you were born, and
so rain will always make me think of that night, and
of you.", said his mother.
"What is rain?", Rain asked.
Rain's mother just laughed and said,
"Rain is water that falls from the sky."
Rain had never seen water from the
sky before; he was confused.

Later that day, Rain wanted to eat his
favorite snack - carrots!
His favorite carrots were grown in a
farmer's garden not too far away.
Rain decided to try a new shortcut
through the forest, he was sure
he would get there faster!
As Rain walked down the path, he passed
by the beaver's home. He saw
a dam made to slow
the flow of the river. Rain's mother told him a
river is a path of water that flows into the
oceans and lakes.

On his way to the farmers garden, the sky
started getting really dark.
Rain could hear really big noises coming from
the sky.
All of a sudden, a huge, bright light
flashed in the sky!
Rain was so frightened.

As tiny drops of water hit Rain's face, a raccoon hiding under
a near by tree called him over to share his hiding place.
Now, Rain was terrified and was shivering all over!
The Little Raccoon said, "Don't be frightened!
It's only a little thunderstorm."
"What is a thunderstorm?" Rain wanted to know.
"A thunderstorm is a strong storm with a lot of rain and
thunder and lightning.
Lightning is that bright flashing light in the sky, and thunder
is the loud booming noise you hear
after the lightning"said Raccoon.

After a while, the water started to pool up like a little
river. The raccoon started to get worried.
"This is no good." said the raccoon.
"Why?" Rain wanted to know.
"If the rain keeps going like this the river will flood and
the forest will be covered with water!",
the raccoon exclaimed.
Rain was really worried, but he didn't know
what a flood was.
The raccoon explained, "A flood is this really horrible
thing where water overflows everywhere!"

The water began to rise, spilling over the banks,
covering the ground.
Rain and his friend, the raccoon, ran for higher ground
before they were covered by water too.
Rain poured from the sky and the
ground became saturated, which meant it
could not hold anymore water.
The water rose over the land, and Rain
worried that the farmer's garden
would be washed away.
