    Once upon a time, 

      not so long ago there was a beautiful,

smart, silly, super nice little girl named Lucy.

         One sunny day Lucy was standing on top of a big green 

  hill painting a magnificent picture. The picture was of her 

baby sister, Alice, that also had a colorful rainbow above her 

head. However, the beautiful day was about to come to an 

end when all of a sudden...

... a strong wind (Whooooooosh!!!) 

came blowing across the hill and knocked 

over Lucy's magnificent painting. 

The wind also knocked Lucy's yellow, blue, green and red 

paint jars off the top of the hill and they rolled in four different 

directions. Lucy sighed, wilted like a flower, and whimpered, 

"Boo-hoo." 

Lucy then dusted herself off and said, "I'm 

going to go on an adventure and find my 

paints and then return to this hill and paint 

another, even better picture!"

She put on her butterfly backpack and off 

brave Lucy went. Down the hill she marched 

while following little drops left behind by the 

green jar of paint.

This path led to Queen MaryEllen's castle. 

Lucy made her way to the castle and was 

about to open the tall wooden doors to retrieve 

her green jar of paint when all of a sudden a 

gargantuan green dragon flew out of the clouds 

and down hard onto the ground directly 

between Lucy and the castle doors. 

The dragon growled, "Who dares try to enter 

Queen MaryEllen's castle?!" Lucy, in her little 

voice said, "I do. My name is Lucy and I'm 

trying to recover my green paint which is just 

beyond that door." The dragon grumbled, "I'll 

let you pass if you prove yourself worthy and 

can count to ten." Lucy said, "No problem!" and 

began counting:

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 10

The dragon smiled and stepped 

aside, allowing Lucy to open the 

castle doors and pick up her 

green jar of paint and put it into 

her butterfly backpack. She then 

bowed to the dragon, thanking 

him, and went on her way down 

the path that led to the Enchanted 

Forest to find her blue jar of paint. 

Lucy followed the dirt path into 

the Enchanted Forest where 

her blue paint jar rolled. She 

saw that the paint bounced into 

a hole in a tree. She walked 

over to the tree hole, reached 

her hand inside, felt around, 

and ...

Something bit her finger! So 

she reached inside again, 

tentatively, and ...

Something bit her finger twice 

this time!

OUCH !!!

OUCH !!! OUCH !!!

Lucy was angry. She yelled, "Whatever's in there biting 

my finger better not do it again!" So she reached in again 

... and ... felt around ... and ...

Three times her finger got chomped! Lucy shouted, "You 

show yourself right this instant!" And then, not a moment 

later, a little squirrel head popped out of the tree hole and 

she said, "Stop trying to steal my nuts and I'll stop biting 

you." 

Lucy then exclaimed, "Oh no. I'm not trying to steal your 

nuts. I'm trying to get my blue jar of paint that rolled into 

your tree." The squirrel, in her little squirrelly voice 

squeaked, "I'm sorry. You may get your paint if you can 

count to eight in Spanish." Lucy said, "No problem-o," and 

began to count.

OUCH !!!

OUCH !!!

OUCH !!!

Uno - Dos - Tres - 

Cuatro - Cinco - Seis - 

Siete - Ocho

“Wonderful counting!” said the squirrel as she stepped aside and 

allowed Lucy to reach her hand in the tree, grab her blue paint 

and put it into her butterfly backpack. “See ya, squirrel,” Lucy 

said, as she turned and headed off in the direction of the river 

where her yellow paint rolled. *

* By the way. Her finger still really hurt. If you have ever had your finger bitten a few times by a 

Spanish speaking squirrel in an Enchanted Forest, then you know the feeling.
