Long ago in the year 1588 a man, Walter lived in a tall castle with his queen. Walter was the guard of the fair lady. Even though he was living in luxury, Walter was unhappy because he wanted to explore the world.







Fun fact: WALTER WAS ONLY 18 WHEN HE STARTED WORKING FOR THE QUEEN.

Walter told his brothers Humphry and Richard about his dreams. Richard and Humphry told Walter about their adventures in the new world, as they had called it. “ I’ve never seen so many deer and tall trees in one place we must go!” exclaimed Humphry.

The next day Walter asked the queen if he could lead an expedition to a new island. “I forbid it, it’s much too expensive. What would I do without you here?” answered the queen.




FUN FACT: Expeditions were so expensive some countries had to stop sending them.





Walter was devastated, he raged at the queen and stormed off to his bunker, later that night he climbed out of his window and made his way to his brother’s house.

When he arrived, his cousin was still there so, he told them that he was planning to make an escape and go follow his dream.

Both of them agreed to join in so Humphrey went off and gathered a crew of 150 men. As they were preparing and getting supplies, Richard gestured for walter to follow him.

FUN FACT: China's explorations had up to 27,000 people for a single trip.
As They made their way to the empty harbor Walter looked up he saw there was a ship floating above him named The Ocean Queen.












FUN FACT: Walter Raleigh's real ship was called the Ark Royal.
“Wha- wha- how- how is it flying?” asked Water. Richard replied “Well my brother, we have been creating a new serum for making our explorations be more efficient.”.

Walter was stunned climbing up the long ladder hanging down from the ship to go explore. his brother, Humphry, yelled to him “We need to get a move on if we want to make it out of here by sunrise!”. So Walter started his way back down the ladder to go help his brother gather the crew.








FUN FACT: sailing became a sport in 1900.
Once Walter reached the group he made an announcement “ Gentlemen of England, we are going on a mission to explore the new world. We must be prepared for whatever comes our way no matter the weather or battle, we stand together as one. Let’s get a move on now men."

After that everyone quickly scrambled up the ladder and boarded The Ocean Queen. When Walter reached the top he grabbed the steering wheel and turned it as far left as he could and with a big jolt the ship and crew were off.

5 Days Later...






On the sixth day of their trip Richard yelled “Land hoooo!’. On the horizon was a big island blooming with flowers and trees, there was even dolphins welcoming them.
Fun Fact: Most expeditions took months to arrive at a destination.
When the ship parked close enough, the crew was sent to explore the land. Humphery, Richard, and Walter waited and waited for the men to come back but when night time came there was no sign of them.

Another 4 hours went by and the captains decided they need to go and explore elsewhere. Which that meant they would leave their missing crew behind, never to be found again.

Summary
Walter Raleigh's Great Escape is a story about a fun filled get away to go explore the world. Walter and his crew go through many exciting adventures along the way such as running away from the Queen and fighting pirates.
