I'd like to dedicate this book to Ryan, my partner in creating this book. He gave me great ideas as a starting point, and then I took the lead in developing it and adding extra detail.
He was a great, fun partner, and i'd enjoy working with him again.

Moving to Tai Wai in 2018 provided Island School students in the Writers' Block Elements class with an exciting opportunity to work on a writing project with Ng Yuk Secondary School. NYSS students shared ideas and English vocabulary from their Form One lessons, collaborating with IS students to weave these elements into stories written for younger children.
The project has been a great success - over the weeks the initial shyness between the schools evaporated, leaving a real creative buzz, lots of laughter, and new friendships. I hope you enjoy the results.

As a local school in the district, we are always looking forward to the possible liaison opportunities with any international schools for collaborative teaching in English. It is our honour to partner with ESF and Island School in running a pilot writing workshop for our Form One students in which they learnt about story elements and new vocabulary.
Our students found the inter-school and inter-cultural experience very enjoyable. Through the creation of their own stories and interaction with IS students in English, their confidence and sense of achievement has been greatly enhanced.

Joe the caveman lived in a dark, gloomy cave in Hong Kong. He liked playing the drums, and talking to lots of girls. But his flirty ways came to an end when he met May.

He was impressed by her good looks, her flowing blonde hair and her great fashion sense. However, his favourite thing about her was her smile.

OOOH OO AH AH OOOHH" said Joe in his made-up caveman language, which, in English meant "Hey baby, I like your smile and your tooth necklace. Do you want to hang out and play music with me?"
Joe's caveman language just sounded like lots of rude grunts to May, so she told him to go away.
Even though Joe felt rejected, he decided not give up because there was something about her that he just couldn't forget.

Go away!

He asked his musician friends Will and Bob for advice about how to impress May.
"No-one can understand your caveman grunting, maybe you should just talk to her normally instead," said Will.

They also thought that maybe May would be impressed by doing something fun.
"I know May likes Ocean Park!'' Joe said, "maybe we should go there to get some ideas."
