I am a real guy just like anyone else. My name is Diego Marquez and I am in the sixth grade. I love to run, so I joined the track team. A lot of people told me that I am a good athlete. I am doing distance, hurdles and long jump. I am not doing shot put because I don't want to to get hit by one. When I was doing hurdles, Sammie came up to me and said, "You can't do that? That's easy!" Then he tried and he fell on the fifth hurdle. He fell bad and bruised his leg. He was laying there crying. Then two coaches and a lot of kids went to go ask him if he was okay and he said "I hurt my leg," so coach Hansen and coach Kessel carried him inside. When we were stretching he came in limping. I thought it was just bad luck!
There is a girl I like, her name is Noely, and last week I told her I liked her, and she said "Don't tell anyone but I like you too." I said "Okay", so I went up to her and said, "if I jump all of those hurdles will you go out with me?", then she said "I would have said YES either way". So I jumped all of the hurdles and went up to her and said "is it a yes or a no?", and she said, "yes"!
When I went home, I told my dad about my day and told him that there was this really cute girl that I like on the long distance team, and that I asked her out, her name is Noely.". After that I went to clean my room. Later, my grandma came over and I tried to tell her but my aunt kept on interrupting me, so I went outside to talk to my uncle instead. My uncle said" you have to treat girls with all of your respect, you have to be kind",
On our first track meet I ran the 800. My time was three minutes and twenty eight seconds . I did long jump and I scratched my first two jumps because when I was running I ran over the line. My time for hurdles was twenty four seconds. I had a lot of fun. When I was doing the hurdles my grandma was there and she was cheering me on. I was so exited that my grandma was there. My grandma never came to any of my wrestling meets when I wrestled, but she came to my track meet. Where my grandma works she never knows when she will get off work. So I was very suprised that she was able to go to my track meet. I took a picture with her and I told her I will give it to her . I asked my grandma if I can send it to me on face book and she said no.
So when I was practicing the hurdles coach Kessel told me to look how many people you have on your team and you're being selfish. I said, "what do you mean?" He said, "you cut everybody" and I said, "no I didn't, I actually waited in line!" I got mad because he told me I'm done and to go get dressed, so after that I waited for practice to be over so I could talk to Noely. I waited in the front, but her dad was there, so I went inside to wait for her. I told her her dad was here then she ran outside because if her dad sees us together she doesn't know what he will do. She thinks maybe her dad will make her switch schools.

North High School came to Houck to help us practice but we didn't get to warm up because they kept talking. When we finally went outside North was really helpful and they taught us lots of things about jumping hurdles that we didn't know. When I was jumping hurdles I fell and then I just got up and tried again.
Next Ms. May came and taught us how to get out of the blocks. My knees and ankles started hurting so I told Ms. May and she told me that you need to stretch your ankles and the she showed me how. She said my knee was just growing pains. When practice was over then Kessel asked us to clean up and then went in the gym to stretch.
In the morning I came late to school. The first thing I did was go to PE. I didn't dress down because I was already late. We went outside to play soccer and I was standing there waiting for my team to get a soccer ball. I said if you guys don't get a soccer ball then I am going with someone else. I went with the people that were right in front of me and I had a lot of fun because there was a kid that said he had soccer practice at six o'clock and he didn't play good soccer he said he was a goalie and I thought he was lying. I kept kicking the soccer ball at him. Ms. May yelled my name and I thought I was in trouble but I just kept playing but she was telling us to come inside.
