To my mom and dad who supported me through the amazing journey of college

“Oh my god! Audrie, you made it to college!” Megan called after Audrie. Audrie and I were walking together, trying not to freak out on our first day of college. I started to walk faster because I didn’t want to be noticed by Megan. Megan and I have a terrible history from middle school.
We were both ecstatic enough to be in the same college. But when we realized we were both in the same dorm hall, we were even more excited. Megan realized she wasn’t in the same hall as us, but that was fine with me. Then Audrie walked to her room and she was standing in front of mine. We looked at each other and smiled. Audrie opened the door and we both walked in together. The room felt dank and we looked back at each other in disgust.
The first thing we did was strip the bed sheets and put them in a hamper. Then we chose which bed was our own. “I think this one should be mine so then you get the better looking bed than the one I get.” I said to Audrie.
“Okay, thanks. I thought you would probably keep your bed though. You technically gave me the better side of the room.” she replied.
“I don’t care. As long as you're fine with that, I’m fine with it. We can still share the room you know.” I stated. I looked through the drawers in my clothes drawer, checking to see if anyone before me left anything so then I could find the lost and found and put their stuff there. I couldn’t find anything so I just put my clothes in the empty drawers.
“We should try and clean this dorm. It smells, tastes, and looks terrible.” I said, disgusted. Audrie shook her head and agreed. “It’s so bad, I can taste it.” She said. I looked around the room and saw stains on the wall.
After we put all our things away, we both agreed to go and take a self-tour/together-tour around the college campus. On the way out, Megan walked up to us. She seemed a little riled up.
“I can’t believe this happened to me on the first day. Bakken is in my dorm! I asked the principle why a boy would be in my dorm and she said ‘because the school can’t provide a single room for a gender, so we had to mix it up.’ Who does that?” she said very unhappily.
Audrie just laughed, which obviously did not help at all because Megan punched her in the arm and I looked at her like she was a wounded animal. A tear started rolling down her cheek and she walked away.
“Want to go check things out on the inside of the building?” I asked Audrie.
“Sure.” she replied.
When we walked in, the first thing we saw was a fight going on between Pedro and Rylan. Pedro and Rylan have never gotten along unless they were under the eyes of a teacher. Pedro came from Texas and now lives in a trailer park. Rylan lives I-have-no-idea-where in Dilworth. Somehow they were able to get on NDSU grounds.
