To My Mom, Jennifer.

“OK Celeste, you’re ready to go!” my mom said with tears of all emotions in her eyes. I was about to move into my dorm at NDSU. I was standing behind the big shiny truck with all of my stuff inside. After a few hugs and a crying session my mom and I got into the car and had my dad drive the truck behind us. I was VERY nervous for college. When we got there and moved in I said goodbye to my parents and brothers and then sat on my new hard bed.

RING! RING! RING! I woke up in shock. “CELESTE TURN THAT OFF,” my new roommate Sara said in annoyance, “WE DON’T HAVE CLASS AT 6 AM!” I turn over and stop my alarm, then explain how I used to wake up at 6 in the summer. I can already tell she is going to be a pain in the butt. After that, we both go back to sleep. But I can’t. I remembered that it was my first day of college and became TERRIFIED.

Because I couldn’t fall asleep, I decided to check Instagram while I have some coffee on the couch. It usually calms me down. At 7 I decide to get ready and go have breakfast since my first class is at 9:30. As I am walking I get very overwhelmed. There are too many people in this hallway for me to take in. I hurry through the crowds and enter the dining hall. There is a sweet smell in the air like coffee and cupcakes. There are less people here. I have a croissant and water and play on my phone for a while, then I realized... IT’S 9:27! CLASS STARTS AT 9:30 AND I’M ALL THE WAY ACROSS CAMPUS!
I stood up and threw my garbage away. I ran to my dorm to get my bag and quickly slammed the big wood door and ran even more. I ran and ran until I was lost and my feet could not handle it anymore. I stumbled across a really cute boy walking towards me and quickly decided to ask him for directions. I say hi fast and explain that I need directions to the geometry class. He quickly introduces himself (His name is Jackson) and I do the same then he gives me directions and smiles. I thank him in a shy voice.

While I was walking away, he yelled “Meet me at the cafe across the street at 12:00!” In shock that a cute boy is actually talking to me, I yell ok and run away to class.

Ok!

Geometry was boring, but it only goes on until 10:00 so I decided to go to my dorm and do homework afterwards. My next class was Architecture at 11:00 so I didn’t have much time for homework so I skip it and call my parents instead. It was a pretty short conversation but it was still already over at 10:45. I gathered all of my stuff and left my dorm saying goodbye to Sara with no response in return. I roll my eyes. The hall was cold and smelled like someone had sprayed AXE all over. I could almost taste it.

The halls are crowded just like before. Everyone looks older than me and it sort of scares me. Luckily on my way to geometry I passed the Architecture room. I wander around a bit since I have time and then finally I walked in. I found a seat in the back that seemed nice. It was hot in there and my seat was by the air conditioner. I sat down and looked around at the faces by me. As I am looking I see Jackson in a desk a few seats down I say hi to him before class and get my books out.

After class I walk towards Jackson and he asks if I want to be an architect I say yes and he says he wants to be one also. We talked about how funny the teacher’s voice was and how it was like a depressed bird. We walked outside to go to the cafe and it’s warm but cold at the same time. When we get to the cafe we both order coffee and a snack. We got to know each other and I got his number...hehe.
