
Vitamin A
Vitamin A forms and maintains the health of vision, teeth, bones, tissue, skin, and mucus membranes. Retinol or vitamin A, is rarely found in foods, so the body converts other substances in the body into vitamin A. The body may experience hyperkeratosis and keratomalacia if there is a shortage. Too much Vitamin A can result in nausea, loss of appetite, dizziness, liver malfunction, and risk of fractures. The RDA is 900/700 micrograms.
Beta Carotene
Beta Carotene converts into Vitamin A and acts as an antioxidant. It is known to slow down cognitive decline and vision loss. A lack of beta carotene may cause anemia, lack of energy, paleness, and shortness of breath. Too much may cause cell proliferation. The RDA is not established.
Niacin
Niacin helps the body eliminate toxins and converts carbohydrates into energy. It also aids in the production of sex and adrenal hormones. Niacin works as a detox by mobilizing fat cells to release toxins into the blood where they can be removed from the body. A deficiency of niacin may cause pellagra and too much may cause liver damage. The RDA is 16 milligrams.
Vitamin B6
Vitamin B6 helps the body form red blood cells and maintain brain function by making neurotransmitters that carry signals from one cell to another. A lack of this vitamin may cause nervousness and irritability. Too much of this vitamin causes sensory neuropathy, loss of control of body movement, skin lesions, and nausea. The RDA is 1.7/1.5 milligrams.
Folate
Folate supports fetal development, promotes sperm viability, and reduces risk of stroke. Folate breaks down proteins, aids in forming red blood cells, and produces DNA. Deficiency may cause birth defects during pregnancy and neural tube defects. Too much folate masks symptoms of deficiency in vitamin B12. The RDA is 400 micrograms.
Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 normalizes functioning of the brain, forms red blood cells, and plays a role in metabolism. It does this by turning food into energy and decreasing the amount of homocysteine in the blood. Deficiency in this vitamin causes megaloblastic anemia. Too much vitamin B12 causes and acme-like rash. The RDA is 2.4 ug.
Biotin
Biotin promotes hair and nail growth. It also promotes healthy sweat glands, nerve tissue, and bone marrow. Biotin utilizes fats and amino acids in the body. Its not necessary to ingest biotin because its made on its own in our intestines. A deficiency of biotin may cause dermatitis and enteritis. There is no known symptoms of high doses of biotin. The RDA is 30 ug.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is necessary for growth, development, and repair of the body. Vitamin C fights free-radicals and prevents oxidation. Deficiency in vitamin C may cause scurvy. Too much may cause gastrointestinal problems, kidney stones, and excess iron absorption. The RDA is 60 milligrams.
