Deep in the jungle, there lived a
monkey named Manny. Manny
was a student at Amazon
Elementary, along with his best
friends Lenny the lion, Zoe the
zebra and Tom the Toucan, and
many other jungle animals. Miss G.
the giraffe was their first grade
teacher.

One day at the beginning of recess,
Manny announces to his friends
that he wants to play catch. The sky
was as blue as a bluejay, so who
wouldn’t want to play on such a
beautiful day? His friends agreed,
so they found a ball and started
playing.

Manny tossed the ball to Lenny,
who tossed it to Zoe, who tossed it
to Tom. Tom tried to catch the ball,
but it slipped out of his wings like
butter.
“I want to try again. Maybe this time
I’ll catch it,” said Tom.

Whoops!

Once again, Zoe tossed the ball to
Tom. He dropped it again!
“Come on, Tom! You are ruining the
game! Catch the ball!” shouted
Manny. But no matter how hard he
tried, he couldn’t seem to catch the
ball.

Not again!
“Manny,” Tom began. “I have
wings. Wings are meant for flying,
not for catching.”
“That’s silly. Anyone that can’t catch
a ball can’t play with me. I don’t
want to play with someone that
can’t catch!” said Manny. Tom was
very upset about what Manny said,
so he flew away from his friends.
Lenny, Zoe, and Manny kept
playing catch.

The very next day at the beginning
of recess, Manny announces to
Lenny and Zoe that he wants to
climb a tree. Lenny and Manny
easily climbed the tree, but when
Zoe tried she fell with a THUMP!

Ouch!

“Come on, Zoe! Climb up with us!” yelled
Manny.
“Hold on, let me try again,” said Zoe. She
tried to climb the tree again, but she fell to
the ground with a BUMP!
“Manny” Zoe said. “I have hooves. Hooves
are meant for running, not for climbing.”
“That’s RIDICULOUS! Anyone who can’t
climb can’t play with me. I don’t want to play
with someone that can’t climb!” said Manny.
Zoe was very sad, so she galloped away and
found someone else to play with. Lenny and
Manny continued to climb the tree.

The next day at lunch, Manny sat down at
their favorite table and opened their lunch
boxes.
“What do you have for lunch today, Lenny? I
have berries and bugs. Yum!” said Manny.
“I have a nice juicy steak for lunch today,” said
Lenny.
“Ewww!” Manny yelped. “Try some of my food
so you don’t have to eat that yucky steak.”
Lenny frowned. “I have sharp teeth that are
meant for chewing meat, not for chewing
berries and bugs. Besides, I love steak.”
