Why am I Taking LIBM 305?
I am taking this course to help increase my knowledge of books. As an educator, I want to be able to help my students pick out books that they enjoy reading! This course will help me become more knowledgeable of different books and different genres that are outside of the ones that I read.
Me, as a Reader
I love to read! The books that I read the most are romance or realistic fiction. Another genre I enjoy reading is suspense books because you never know what's coming next for your main character.

My Favorite Books (current & past)
My all time favorite book is Are You There God? It's Me, Margret by Judy Blume. I read that book so many times growing up. I am really big into books series and one of my favorite series is by Lauren Conrad.

My Favorite Author
My favorite author is Patricia Polacco for so many reasons. The stories she writes are just so amazing and always tug at your heart strings. One thing that I really enjoy is that her stories always have a message that will resonate with you and help you become a better person.

How I get Students to Read

I get my students to read by giving them the opportunity to choose what books they want to read. This is important in creating life long readers, which is my ultimate goal. I also do book chats with students to get them talking about their reading and see what they may or not be understanding or liking in their book.
My Life
I am in my final year at BHSU and currently student teaching at Creekside Elementary in the 5th grade. If I am not in school, you can usually find me in the gym because I also play on the women's basketball team or hanging out with my friends and family. I have loved my time living in Spearfish; going to coffee shops and hiking the trails. Besides reading, I also love to drink a lot of coffee and eat cookies (I have a terrible sweet tooth).
Last Book I Read

The last book I read was called The Girls by Emma Cline. This book takes place in the late 1960's in California and is loosely based on the Manson Family and cult.
Favorite Book Memory
My favorite memory about books is when my mom would read to me every night before bed. I remember I would sit on her lap and just be amazed at how she was reading these random letters! She also made sure I always had a book to read by giving us one for Christmas every year. It has inspired me to do that with my own children someday.
