That's plagiarism!

Emma loves almost all songs by Imagine Dragons. She decided to download some of the best songs that they have had, and put it on her blog for everyone to see. Imagine Dragons songs are all protected by copyright. The thing that Emma did is clearly plagiarism because she took Imagine Dragons songs and put it on her own blog without their permission; so her friend Amy (Another Imagine Dragons fan) told her it was illegal , and Emma took it off of her blog.

That's piracy!

Later that day, Emma saw that on Amy’s music blog, where she writes songs and puts them on there, that she copied a lyric from one of Imagine Dragons songs “Natural”. She called her and told her that it was piracy because she was stealing a sentence and making it her own. So she changed the lyric.

This is fair use.

The next day Amy sees in a news article that someone interviewed Imagine Dragons and got to put in a quote from one of their songs. She asked Emma why they could do it, but not her. Emma explained that they were using it for a transformative purpose because they quoted them and said who it was by in an interview. That means it was fair use.

Oh, they have a copyright license.

Emma heard that someone was planning on using a song from Imagine Dragons and using it for something. Imagine Dragons let them use it because they both have a copyright license and they were going to make sure they knew it was their song.
