Abrasion










Justin was riding his skateboard when he ran into a log. He flipped over and got an abrasion on his hand
Abrasions are often contaminated with dirt and debris. So the best way to treat the injury is to...
remove the dirt and debris
rinse the abrasion thoroughly with running water
wash the area with soap and water to lower the risk for infection
Signs and Symptoms are:
outer skin layers exposed
shallow wounds that do not bleed much
usually a sliding fall

The man was on a hike when he came across a clearing. In this clearing there were snakes slithering around. The man tried to cross but he was bitten
Signs and symptoms:
pair of puncture wounds and localized redness
pain and swelling in the area of the bite
Way to Treat injury:
Call 9-1-1 or the designated emergency number immediately
If you are not sure whether the snake bite was caused by a venomous snake, call 9-1-1 or the designated emergency number anyway
Do not waste time trying to find and capture the snake for identification
do not wait for life-threatening signs and symptoms of poisoning to appear

Tom Hart was riding his bike in the park when he had trouble breathing and fell of his bike.
To treat this injury:
Encourage the person to use his or her prescribed quick-relief (rescue) medication
If you have not already done so, call 9-1-1
Stay with the person and monitor his or her condition until the person is able to breathe normally or help arrives
Signs and symptoms include:
Wheezing or coughing
Rapid, shallow breathing (or trouble breathing)
Sweating
Being unable to talk without stopping for a breath in between every few words
Feelings of tightness in the chest or being unable to get enough air into the lungs
Anxiety and fear
Sprains

Oliver Smith caught the ball from Wentz then got rocked by the person playing safety and sprained his ankle





To treat this injury:
R- stands for rest. Limit use of the injured body part
I- stands for immobilize. Stabilize the injured body part with an elastic bandage or a splint to limit motion.
C- stands for cold. Apply a cold pack wrapped in a thin, dry towel to the area for no more than 20 minutes at a time
E- stands for elevate. Propping the injured part up may help to reduce swelling
Signs and symptoms:
Ends of a broken bone protruding through the skin
Injured body part might appear bent or crooked (deformed)
feeling or hearing “popping” or “snapping” at the time of the injury
“grating” when moving the injured part
There is moderate or severe swelling and bruising
The person cannot move or use the injured body part
