Personal Narrative Anchor Chart
To write a strong personal narrative, writers:
Understand the features of a personal narrative:
- it is a true story
- it tells where and when it happened
The writer uses the first person point of view: I, me, and my.
- has a beginning, middle, and end
- the writer describes his/her actions, thoughts and feelings.
- A life lesson usually closes a personal narrative.
When I was 6 years old, I lived in Cleveland, Tennessee. We lived in a house that had a huge backyard with a really cool swing set and several huge trees. One tree in particular was a really good climbing tree.
During the summer, my sister, Katherine, my friend Will and I would spend hours playing outside. We knew if we went inside our moms would give us chores to do!

My yard had this one huge tree in the way back that was perfect for climbing. It had this one low branch that was easy to swing up on so we could get to the rest of the branches.
Mom always told us not to climb too high because she wasn't coming up to get us if we got stuck.
One day we were all outside playing in the tree. Will decided we were going to see who could climb the highest. First he went up, touched the top of the tree and climbed back down.
