A true story of a 6 year old African American girl and her journey on the Middle passage.

The last thing I remember from home is climbing the trees with my brother, while my little sister stayed on the ground. I remember the hot sun, and dry air. When we got to the top, there was a slight breeze. We could see the whole village. We could also see the ships heading our way. After that, it's just blurry pictures. But it was just a dream. When I woke up, I tasted salt, it was hot, I forgot how tired I felt when I heard the screams of the people around me. That's when I new, I wasn't home, infact, I was far from it. We were on ship, there were tons of us, all shackled together. There was a lot of crying, I didn't see my older brother, but my sister was next to me. She was still asleep. We were between two men i've never seen before. They weren't from our village.
Day 1, The beginning
Day 6
It's been six days since we were taken. The screams have started to die down. I still don't know if my brother is here, I can't see him, and I didn't even see him when we wee taken up to be cleaned. It's starting to smell down here. They won't let us up to go to the bathroom, so we have to do it down here. It's sticky, and gross. I can't move much, but I don't mind, as long as my baby sister is ok. I block the men were between from crushing her while there sleeping, and while their awake. But i'm sure others have it worse. *SPLASH*, there goes another poor soul. It hurts to think of the sharks just tearing them apart, but it's hard not to, especially when you hear them coming. They swim near the bottom of the boat, so sometimes, the sharks fins will hit the bottom of the ship.
We've been on this ship for a month. I finally found my brother. It turns out he was just in the deck above us. We just got back down from being cleaned off, I'm not going to lie, it's nice getting cleaned up from all the junk down here, but I do wish the water was warmer. That way we all weren't freezing after. It smells terrible down here, no wonder they send different people every time they come get us to get cleaned off. There are less of us now, some got sick on the way and were thrown over board. I finally have room to move, one of the guys next to us got sick, so he's gone now. I feel bad, but I didn't really know him anyway. Now I don't have to worry about my sister getting crushed. I finally remember some things that happened the day we were brought on here.
