"sister wolf"

I was motivated to write my own rendition of a fairy tale. After searching for a popular fairy tale to make my own, I came across "Little Red Riding Hood". This was also a reading assignment throughout my Children's Literature class in which we had to read several different renditions. Many of them were similar to the original story, but a couple had their own spin on things. I wanted to put the Wolf in as the main character and put Little Red Riding Hood (the Red hunters) in as the "bad guy" in my story. I had considered killing Grandfather Wolf or Sister Wolf or both, but thought of my kids reading this fairy tale and then explaining deaths of characters to them at their ages - no thanks. I am not at all a creative individual, so I wanted to run with an idea I had while I had it. I pitched this idea to my son the other day and he said it sounded cool to him. I'd like to write things that children can get interested in right away. My son has a hard time getting into a book just based off the first boring few pages. I would like for him, as well as any child to understand not every book is boring. I tried to jump right into some adventure with Sister Wolf heading off into the woods. Brother and Father Wolf don't play much of a part until the end, but you see an image of them in the beginning. Mother Wolf is a key piece to the message my wife and I try to relay to our children about honesty at home. If our kids come to us with the truth, no matter what happened, we can help. Brother Wolf delivers the message at the end that we also pass along at home about how family is always there for each other. I decided to go with images on every page for entertainment. I have a 3 year old at home and if he picks up a book, he wants pictures in it. All of the images, scenes and props came from www.storyjumper.com. The scene with Sister Wolf getting back to her house, you'll notice she doesn't have the plate of meat in her hand, that is deliberate. In a typical situation where you are scared, you may drop whatever you have and run. Later in the story the family comes back across that plate of meat, so I intentionally wrote that they picked up the plate of meat that Sister had dropped. I put that little bit of fun in there for my older 2 kids. I liked the faceless Red hunters that I chose. They are a small part of this story, but not big enough to have a face.
