To my friends and family

It was a cold frosty morning in 1985 when suddenly, Mia Grey who was only 15, heard a loud crash coming from the kitchen. Mia was startled awake, so she went downstairs. The old stairs creaked as she ran to the kitchen.



“Mom?” cried out Mia, “What was that?”

There was no response, she ran faster.

“Are you okay?”

As Mia entered the kitchen, she saw a horrible sight. Her mom was laying on the slippery floor covered in blood.

“What happened? MOM!” Yelled Mia.

“Go to your aunties house right now!” Screamed Laura, who was Mia’s mom.

“Wait mom what”

“Just go!”

Mia struggled to get her shoes on because nothing like this had ever happened to her before. 

She dashed out the door about to faint but she knew she had to save her mother. Mia could barely see, because it was so misty but she knew the way by heart. As she got further away from the farm, Mia thought she saw something out of the corner of her eye. 

“Surely it was nothing” Mia thought.

“No one had ever lived close by”

As Mia tried to catch her breath, she turned around and she instantly knew the thing she had seen was alive. It was real Mia told herself she had to keep moving. She can’t let that thing catch her.

“Just 10 more minutes until safety...”

Mia started running even harder, but she turned around to see the silhouette. It was fading. Mia thought she had outrun it. But then Mia heard a deep booming voice calling her name. She felt dizzy.

“How could this thing know my name?” Mia thought. 

As tears blurred her vision, Mia noticed bright lights in the distance. She was almost there. Mia ran as fast as her legs could carry her, she screamed out

“Auntie Sarah! It’s me, Mia, please help!”

Mia saw the house in which she had spent so many happy times. Mia knew she had made it, she was safe.

“Come in my dear Mia, what is the problem?” 

Mia sobbed into her sweater, “Did you see anyone following me?”
