When Ryan was a baby his belly never hurt.

But when Ryan was 14, something changed. His belly started to hurt. He couldn't figure out why it hurt.

He wasn't even hungry for his favorite food, muffins!

He made sure to tell his mom something was wrong

his mom took him to the doctor's office.

They had to run a lot of tests to see what was wrong.

The doctor told him that he had Crohn's disease. Ryan didn't know what that meant, but the doctor made sure to let him know that medication will help.

Crohn's disease effects Ryan's digestive system, causing his bellyache. It also effects his appetite which caused him not to want muffins.

Ryan took two medications, an antibiotic to treat the effects of the disease. Then he took a immune response medication that targeted his immune system that was causing the pain.

Ryan felt better after taking the medications for a couple months! He was even eating muffins again!

Ryan had another check up with the doctor, to make sure he was feeling better. Ryan thought he could be going into remission.

The doctor said he had a blockage in his bowel, which is under his tummy. And that he had to have surgery. Ryan had suffered a relapse.

Ryan had surgery.
