Hurricane Maria

Maria was one of the most devastating hurricanes to hit Puerto Rico. On September 13, 2017 it was supervised as a tropical wave by the National Hurricanes Center, and with the passing of days it was formed in a hurricane, exactly on September 17, 2017. It is considered the second most catastrophic and powerful hurricane to hit the island after Hurracane San Felipe in 1928. This not only affected Puerto Rico, but also affected the Dominican Republic, the Barvolento Islands, the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Bahamas, Bermuda and the Virgin Islands. It should be noted that this hurricane struck Puerto Rico while it was recovering from Hurricane Irma. Causing thus more havoc as the lack of light by landslides, floods and lack of trade.

After the passage of Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico was affected by strong winds. These caused tress and poles to fall leaving roads and communities without access due to blockades. Having a devastating effect on the island since the hurricane destroyed the electricity grid, leaving one hundred percent of the island without electric service. Also, when there was no electricity, cellular networks were reduced, and the stations stopped working due to the damage caused to the antennas bye the strong winds, leaving Puerto Rico in crisis and paralyzed.
