
The town of Žilina
It lies on the northwest of our country - Slovakia. It is the 3rd largest city, important industrial town, close to Czech and Polish borders. It has almost 85000 inhabitans and it is located at the confluence of 3 rivers: Kysuca, Váh and Rajčianka. It is surrounded by mountain ranges. The town has got a long history, its own symbols and flag.
The symbol
The coat of arms of Žilina is a golden double-cross (so-called cross of Lorraine) with roots and two golden stars on an olive-green background. The double-cross is of Byzantine origin and stems from Cyrillic-methodic tradition. This is one of the oldest municipal coat of arms, not only in Slovakia, but in Europe. It has been used as the city's symbol since 1378.

Budatin castle
The Budatin castle
is a castle in the north western Slovakia. It was built as a guarding castle in the second half of the 13th century, later it was fortified, rebuilt and reconstructed. The last major reconstruction was done in the 1922-1923, based on the historical and romantic motives. Budatín Castle is a historical and architectural monument of Žilina. In the past, it was one of the water castles, protected by the river flow and water ditches. Today, the castle houses three exhibitions of the Považské museum. For example, you can see historic artefacts from wire and sheet metal, contemporary documents, photographs and artworks.

Marianske square
Marianske square
Marianske square is a city monument reserve. The Mariánske námestie/square has 106 arcade passages and 44 burgher houses.The church of Saint Paul the Apostle dominates. You can also find the old building of the city council, and the baroque statue of the Virgin Mary.

The CHURCH of HOLY TRINITY
is also called the Cathedral of Holy Trinity. It is one of the town's most significant monuments. Together with the Burian's Tower it creates the typical skyline of the town.The church burned down three times.The main altarpiece in the main altar depicts the Holy Trinity, the side altars depict Immaculate Conception and the Crucifix. The Burian´´´ s tower is on the left and offers a good view of the preserved medieval part of the town.

The Art Gallery of Považie
was established in 1976 and focuses mainly on contemporary art transcending in the art of the 60s, 70s and 80s. It offers primarily exhibitions of new media such as installation, video art, site-specific art and also classic media: painting, sculpture, graphics, poster and photography. Here are also permanent works by the leading personality of Slovak art of the 20th century Vincent Hložník and presents the younger generation.
