I

Once upon a time, there was a college student named Tessa. She was very outgoing, sweet, well known and super funny. She was very focused pursing her life dream to be a lawyer. She always had her work done and turned in on time. From the time she was little she had been extremely smart and school came very easy to her. She had many friends and was always invited to parties. Even though she seemed like a frat girl, she always got her work done, was always on time to work, and was a straight A student. One day she went to a party with her friend James. Little did she know, that one day would change the rest of her life.

A few weeks later...
Tessa woke up with an awful headache and was nauseous. She knew something wasn't right. She assumed maybe she was catching a cold or the flu, so she went back to bed. She was so tired and overworked, yet she had done nothing all day. She knew deep down this was not the flu, but kept telling herself it was just the flu nothing more serious. She had a gut feeling that her risky behavior at a party may have something to do with these symptoms. She decided to take an Advil, chug a tall glass of water, and head to sleep.

She had a gut feeling that she was pregnant, but decided to wait it out.
One week later...
Something was most definitely wrong, she became ill every morning and couldn't even get out of bed sometimes. She started having even worse headaches, random cravings, and awful mood swings over things that weren't even reasonable. She was terrified, because she had always wanted to get married and be happily in love before even the thought of having children with someone. Also, if she was pregnant she didn't know how James would react to the breaking news. She decided to book a doctors appointment, knowing she was most likely pregnant.

It was time for her appointment, so Tessa got ready and drove to the doctors office. On the way she blared her music as loud as she could, hoping to drown out her emotions and negative thoughts. She tried and tried but she couldn't. She was hoping that if she just kept turning it up, her thoughts about possibly being pregnant would just disappear. They didn't disappear, not at all. She finally arrived at the doctors office, she took a deep breath in, prayed to god everything would be okay, and walked into the office. They signed her in and she waited in the waiting room. Her heart was racing and she started bouncing her leg nervously. She just knew that whatever was making her feel this way, wasn't going to be good. She just had that instinct and knew something wasn't right with her body. She sat waiting for about fifteen minutes until she heard a short, blonde, sparkle-eyed nurse call out "Tessa?"

Tessa stood up, took another deep breath, and followed her nurse to a smaller room at the back. They began their testing by checking her blood pressure, her heart rate, and they had to get her weight and height. She had sent in her symptoms, so the next thing they made her do was pee in a cup. They ran labs on the cup and checked to see if by any chance she was pregnant. Once she got her results back, they broke her the news. Tessa was in fact pregnant. She broke down into tears of all types. She was in shock, never had she imagined getting pregnant at such a young age by someone who she claimed as a her best friend. Not her boyfriend, her best friend. She had no idea what to do next, so she listened to her gut instinct once again.

Her first reaction was to call her mom. They hadn't spoken in almost three weeks. Tessa called her mom, Kelly, bawling and the first words she said were, "Momma, I'm pregnant and don't know what to do". Her mother broke into tears over the phone, which only made Tessa cry even harder. The doctor sat there, holding Tessa's hand as she explained to her mom what had been happening. Tessa lived in Florida because of college, and her parents lived back in Texas. Her mom told her not to worry, that she'd buy a plane ticket and be done there by morning. Tessa left the office crying and shaking, and booked a second appointment for the following day.
