The clear blue waves crashing into the rocks, the seagulls screeching high up in the sky,
and the palm trees moving side to side, with its leaves softly shaking. That’s the view I had from
the 10th floor of San Alfonso del Mar’s resort. I was staying with my family for one whole week,
and my friends staying in the next room. It was almost 8 o’clock and we were about to leave for
my friend’s room for a nice dinner of pork, meat, chicken and of course marshmallows.
“Hurry up Samuel,” my mom called out.
“You and dad go first, I’ll catch up with you in a moment,” I told her. It’s not that I wasn’t
hungry; I was simply at peace watching the sun set painting the ocean with a light purple.

I was 7 years old; I still hadn’t managed to master Spanish, but either way it didn’t
matter to me. All I cared about in that time, was having fun with my two best friends who
were coming with us, Andres and Doohee. We had already packed our bags and were ready
for our journey. My parents and my friend’s parents had decided to meet on the gas station
Shell. Since my dad didn’t know the way to San Alfonso del Mar we had to follow them. It
would take 2 hours to get there, but I couldn’t keep still, and every 5 minutes I would ask my
mom,
“Are we there yet?” and she kept responding,
“No.” Slowly, we approached the ocean and I could see the large body of water flowing
to the shore. Amazed from the sight I kept silent during the entire way to San Alfonso del Mar.
Quickly, I came out of the car to be welcomed by the fresh air, and the wonderful sight of the
beach and the pyramid-shaped buildings. I met up with my friends while our parents went to
the office to receive the keys for our rooms. Then, we raced to the elevator and pressed the
button. 1 2 3… Ting, the bell rang as we arrived on the fifth floor.

We rushed to our room and we entered. I literally screamed my head off, we had the
most fabulous view of the beach, and the furniture was big and comfortable. One whole week
here was going to be a dream come true. It took me 5 seconds to realize that definitely this
would be my favorite place in all Chile. And so we unpacked our luggage and my friends and I
went to the biggest pool in the world, and we swam in the freezing water, hitting each other
with wet balls made of sand. Later, we went to the beach with the golden sand scratching our
feet as we ran away from the waves. We dug holes in the sand to make pools as the water
came and filled it in. This is how I spent my first day in San Alfonso del Mar.

On the second day we went to restaurants to try out the fresh fish and clams of Chile;
it was simply delicious. This is how we spent our week in here sleeping late everyday and
drawing doodles on the first one who fell asleep. I really didn’t want to go, but we had to.
