The interior of the Orthodox Church consists of three main parts:

3. PRIPRATA

Church is the God's house.

Oltar is the symbol of heaven.

The design of the New – Cathedral church was made in 1866 by Andreja Аndrejevic and the constructor of the church was Svetozar Tanazevic.

The date for the erection of the Cathedral church of The Dormition of the Holy Theotokos was July 12, 1869. In the presence of Metropolitan Mihailo Jovanovic, Prince Milan Obrenovic, the future king laid down the foundation for the new church. But in the period from 1872 till 1879 due to the lack of funds there were no construction works. At the end of 1879 some resources were found and the erection started again. The building of the church was completed in 1884. In Monthly Menaion for September on page 144. there is a record that the temple was consecrated by Metropolitan Teodosije Mraovic on Sunday, 30 of September 1884.

The Cathedral church in Kragujevac, dedicated to The Dormition of the Holy Theotokos, is located in the main street.

Since it has been built, the cathedral or New Church represents and will, by all means, represent an important place in the life of many Kragujevac citizens who have experienced their religion and God in this very temple.

The history of Kragujevac city is not too long, but life in wider area of Kragujevac goes even before the XV century and that can be seen in the first written documents found.

Numerous traces of people living here are recorded in a lot of places, from the oldest ones such as Paleolithic caves (surrounding of Gradac) and those Neolithic ones (Divostin, Grivac) and from copper and bronze age and so on till our times.

The first historical document mentioning Kragujevac under the name of Karagovindza dates from the year 1476. Prince Milos Obrenovic chose Kragujevac to be the capital of Serbia in 1818 and one of the first things he did then was to build an orthodox church. Prince Milos erected the church in the old graveyard and dedicated it to the Descent of the Holy Spirit and nowadays it is known as The Old Church.
