I created this book to guide teachers on how to effectively create an art activity for language/literacy development. after much research, I found that postcards incorporate both art and language/literacy skills for children of various ages. There are many free online resources for printable postcards. Postcard activities can also be used with lower elementary and upper elementary students.

This activity has many varieties.

For students ages 3-6, this activity can serve as an art activity, a parent's day activity, or grandparent's day activity. These students can choose to use finger paints, watercolors, markers, or crayons. This activity is developmentally appropriate because it incorporates imagination, creativity, and beginning writing skills. I chose this activity because of its flexibility. It can be used for many purposes and can be adapted to holidays as well.

For students ages 6-9, this activity can serve as an art activity, a postcards for sick kids activity, or an appreciation for others activity. Children can learn to give back to the community by creating postcards for sick children in hospitals. The postcards can be mailed together in a large manila envelope to local hospitals for distribution in its children's ward.

For students ages 9-12, this activity can serve as an art activity, a cards for senior citizens activity, a pen pals for seniors activity, and a random acts of kindness activity. These students can use various art media such as tempera paints, mixed media, and computer generated art. Children can use their artistic abilities and sharper writing skills to make a real difference in their community. They can reach out to the elderly population by providing them with hope and inspiration through weekly handwritten postcards.
