I Am Poem: High School Changed Me
I am low-spirited
I understand not everyone will like me
I say I am a boxer that will beat the rumors
I dream that high school will be over soon
I try to put a grin on my face, making a fake smile
I hope that I will have real friends one day
I am waiting for change
I am alone
I wonder if anyone will see that
I hear low voices laughing at me
I see teenagers whispering from one ear to the other
I want to ignore the drama
I am a believer
I pretend everything is okay
I feel excluded from the rest of the school
I worry about my self esteem
I cry late at night so no one will hear my tears
The setting of the I am poem, "High School Changed Me," is Santana High School, all around campus. With the phrase, "I see teenagers whispering from one ear to the other," I used imagery for the audience to see teenagers gossiping. I used another type of imagery with the phrase, "I hear low voices laughing at me," to have the audience hear kids laughing at me This poem is about how I feel about myself during high school .because I feel out of place at Santana. I want the audience to feel isolated and judged as I do.
I am Poem: High School Changed Me
The background of the Bio Poem, "Hailey Justice," is describing myself about my characteristics. With the expression, "Lover of cookies, Chipotle, and Chili's," I used alliteration to describe what I love to eat. I used a simile with the clause, "I fear spiders like a young girl who fears dinosaurs," to compare my fear toward insects. The purpose of this poem is to describe my characteristics and my passions. I want the audience to know how I see myself in someone else eyes.

Hailey,
Thankful, ambitious, faithful, lively
Daughter of Chris and Sara
Lover of cookies, Chipotle, and Chili’s
Who feels passion, love, and determination for softball
Who needs to go to the beach, tan, and swim
Who gives her heart, love, and affection to her family
Who fears spiders like a young girl who fears dinosaurs
Who would like to see Europe, Jamaica, and Africa
Resident of Santee, California

Re-Creation Poem: Gray December Night
Long brown hair, covering her brown eyes
Pink plaid shirt drenched in O-positive blood
Singular bullet hiss past my body
Porch light burned red
Thoughts running
Skin shivering, skin peeling
Weighted down with fear
Touching her shoulder
My breath before me
Weather changing
Fearing tiered steps
Took her hand
Sparked with fire
My face so bright
This gray December has changed
Selected words are from Gary Soto’s poem “Oranges”
The setting of the re-creation poem, "Grey December Night," is in front of my house. With the locution, "Pink plaid shirt drenched in O-positive blood," I used alliteration and imagery. The alliteration in pink describes a young, innocent girl. The imagery with blood on her shirt describes the young girl getting injured. I also used repetition and consonance with "skin burning, skin peeling" to describe how my skin was crawling with shock when she got shot. The purpose of this poem is to describe how my best friend got shot and how I was feeling during that time.

Imitation: The Month about Love
The background of the imitation poem, "The Month about Love," takes place in the backyard of my family's old condominium during February. I used repetition "on the 16th of February" to emphasize the importance of that date. I also used imagery with "cut on my left leg" and "feet throbbing with pain" to make the audience feel the pain I was feeling. This poem was written to describe how I was locked out of my house at a young age and how my adventures began that day. Also I used multiple different types of imagery to describe all the feeling I felt and to give the audience a picture of what the day was like.
On the 16th of February.
It was on the 16th of February.
Trees whispering
On the 16th of February.
Big black fences laughing
On the 16th of February
I am hula hooping in a green gown
On the 16th of February.
Locked door inside
On the 16th of February.
Turning the knob trying to get inside
On the 16th of February.
Climbing the fence
On the 16th of February.
Cut on my left leg
On the 16th of February.
Feet throbbing with pain
On the 16th of February.
Imitation Poem: The Month about Love
My tears feel like fire against my face
On the 16th of February.
My tiny hands knocking on our front door
On the 16th of February.
No one answering
On the 16th of February.
Running to my neighbors
On the 16th of February.
Calling the house phone
On the 16th of February.
No one answering
On the 16th of February.
My father running towards me
On the 16th of February.
His tears felt like ice on my head
On the 16th of February.
Cradling me apologizing
On the 16th of February.
It was on the 16th of February

Definition Poem: Zoanthropy
Zoanthropy: [zo-an-thro-py], noun, plural zoanthropes:
A human believing that they are an animal; psychotic belief, delusion,
The full moon shines on an October night
Chains welded inside the underground cave
Screaming and screeching coming from the cave,
Fighting against the chains like an inmate trying to escape prison
Bones breaking every time he moves
Looking down on his hands, slowly filling with fur,
He feels his teeth getting by the second
Everything goes black,
Suddenly the sun is shining through the cave,
He struggles to get out of the chains
Flashing red in the corner,
Recording all night
Looks at the tape
Realized him being a wolf was a delusion.
The setting of the definition poem, "Zoanthropy," takes place in an underground cave. With the phrase, "Fighting against the chains like an inmate trying to escape prison," I used a simile to compare that the man in transformation was trying to be set free. Also another locution, "he feels his teeth getting sharper by the second" I used a hyperbole to exaggerate that the man was having a delusion. Finally with this phrase, "bones breaking every time he moves" I used alliteration and imagery to relate that his bones are breaking by the minute. The cause of this poem is to announce that transforming into an animal is a delusion.

Limerick: Avoidance
The background of the limerick poem, "Avoidance," is in a hallway at Santana High School. WIth the expression, "her friends were walking. Laughing and talking," I used rhyme with "walking" and "talking" to emphasize that her friends were gossiping and walking without her. I used consonance with "she skipped down the hall smiling and humming. Then she realized that they were all coming" to report that she was avoiding the situation with her friends. The basis of this poem is to let the audience know that a high school girl avoided her friends to avoid the drama.
She skipped down the hall smiling and humming
Then she realized that they were all coming,
Her friends were walking
Laughing and talking,
She ran away the avoid the incoming.
