There once was a mouse called
Charlie who lived with his mummy,
daddy and seventeen brothers and
sisters in the garden of a big
house.

Charlie was scared of everything,
even his shadow sometimes made
him jump. His brothers and sisters
used to tease Charlie and play
tricks on him, hiding and jumping
out shouting "BOO!"

"BOO!"
"D-D-Didn't s-s-scare m-me"
"D-D-Didn't s-s-scare m-me" said
Charlie, trying to be brave. But he
was scared.

"Slow down"
"come on slow coach, catch up"

One day Charlie and Freddie, the
youngest of his brothers, went to the
berry bush to get some blueberries for
supper. Freddie was running ahead
shouting "come on slow coach, catch
up", "slow down" said Charlie " we have
to stay together". Freddie ran around
the corner and out of sight.

"Freddie, where are you"

As Charlie turned the corner he was
waiting for Freddie to jump out on him
to make him jump but Freddie was
nowhere to be seen. "Freddie", shouted
Charlie, "Where are you". "stop being
silly, I know you're in the bushes", but
Freddie didn't answer. As the bushes
rustled behind Charlie, he turned around
ready to tell Freddie off for hiding but
what he saw froze him with fear.

"does this belong to you"
"y-y-y-yes, h-h-he'smy b-b-baby brother"

"Does this belong to you", said
Lola. Lola was a giant black cat
with green eyes, long teeth and
sharp claws. She was holding
Freddie by the tail, swinging him
from side to side."y-y-y-yes gulped
Charlie "h-h-he's my b-b-baby
brother". "please let him go".

"He's nothing but trouble, and he smells"
"he smells ok to me"
"why should I", said Lola. "I'm lonely
living in the house on my own, I may
keep him as my pet".
Charlie thought very quickly " you don't
want to keep him as a pet" "he's nothing
but trouble, and he smells". "Is that so",
said Lola, sniffing Freddie, "He smells OK
to me".

"If you let Freddie go, I will come and
live with you"

"If you let Freddie go, I will come
and live with you", said Charlie
bravely. Freddie couldn't believe
what his brother had said, but was
so scared he couldn't say a word.

"whats your namelittle mouse"
"Ch-ch-Charlie,Ch-Charlie Mouse"

"Ok" said Lola, and quick as a flash
she dropped Freddie and scooped
Charlie up into her paws." whats
your name little mouse?" she
asked. "Ch-ch-Charlie", stammered
Charlie, "Ch-Charlie Mouse". As
Lola darted off towards the house,
Freddie ran home, crying.

"How do you get inside"
"I have my own door, its called a cat flap"

As Lola carried Charlie towards the house,
it got bigger and bigger.
Charlie had never seen anything as big in
his whole life and he has never been as
far from his home and family. I hope
Freddie got home safely he thought to
himself. "How do you get inside?" asked
Charlie."I have my own door" said Lola
"Its called a cat flap". And with that she
pushed her head through and entered the
house.

"Are they your pets too"
"No, they belong to
the humans"

"This is my home" said Lola. "Welcome".
"Its very big" said Charlie. He looked
around, and saw some fish in a big glass
bowl swimming in circles. "Are they your
pets too?" he asked. "No" said Lola. "
They belong to the humans". "What are
humans?" said Charlie. "They are my two
legged slaves that feed me and look
after me" purred Lola. "I've seen them in
the garden" said Charlie, "they are
scary".

"You'll like it here, Charlie mouse.
Its very..."

Lola put Charlie down onto the
floor next to her bowl and began to
drink some water. "You'll like it
here, Charlie mouse" she said "its
very...
As she turned around to look at
Charlie he was gone!

"Charlie Mouse, youcome back here
right away"

He had waited until Lola wasn't
looking and darted off under the
fridge freezer, around the outside of
the lounge and behind the TV.
"Charlie Mouse, you come back here
right away", meowed Lola.
Charlie sat silently behind the big grey
TV, hardly breathing trying not to
shake.
