Waves. Ever since I was a child I thought they were so peaceful, beautiful, and calm. The smooth, soft, and different colors of sand I ran across to the shore to get to those beautiful swells of deep or light blue waves, I will never forget. The endless nights of lying on the beach just to listen to them run up onto shore then run away back into the majestic wonder of ocean they came from, have forever been some of my most fond memories.
The cool gentle breeze was always there, both day and night. There was something relaxing in how it ruffled my hair or blew the seagulls to and fro. It was almost sweet if you just sat there and watched it dance with the cat-tails. The sound though. There was always something about how the ocean waves crashed against the rocks or up onto the shore that captivated me. Some nights I would just lie on the shore listening to them crash into the smoothed over boulders that they had bumped into many a time before.
I'll never forget once when I was 10 going to my favorite beach. The sand was pink and the ocean waves were clear light blue. The kind of sand and waves that reflect like sparkling diamonds in the bright summer sun. These waves had their own song during the night, it was melodious and breath-taking. I had found a conch shell that day and it was in color, a beautiful orange and pink. It had that sweet song trapped inside of it. Every night before bed I would listen to it until my hand got too tired to hold it to my ear anymore. I've kept that shell with me all through these years, though now it seems to carry a different note.
I left those peaceful and beautiful shores when i was 17. World War 11 had broken out and i was drafted. I was stationed to go fight at Omaha Beach. I was thrilled yet scared. The whole ride on the back of that old beat up pick-up, to my barracks, I couldn't help but think of the beaches I was leaving behind and the memories I had made at them. I wondered what type of memories I would make at this beach and when I'd be able to go back home to my own.
