July 31, 1965; the day the world of 

writing, little did it know, was changed 

forever. It may seem to have been a 

millennium ago, but in truth it was only a 

meager 47 years that Joanne Rowling was 

born. The first story she ever wrote was at 

the age of five, and called Rabbit. The 

story was about a Rabbit, who 

unfortunately had a case of the measles. 

This was the beginning of her long and 

difficult journey.

Later in her life, she became engaged to 

Jorge Arantes in 1992. A year later their 

only child, Jessica Rowling, was born. 

Shortly after the birth Rowling and 

Arantes, a newly married couple, got 

divorced. Now as a single mother she was 

forced to care for her infant child.     

After getting divorced she decided it was time for a fresh 

start and moved back to Edinbourgh to be with her 

younger sister Di. There she began the life of a single 

mom working many different jobs and writing Harry 

Potter during stolen moments in The Elephant House 

coffee house.

At long last after 7 years of hard work she finished the 

manuscript for the first Harry Potter book. She sent it 

out to two publishers, both of which rejected her. After 

that she sent her story to ten other publishers who also 

turned her down.

Finally after getting rejected 12 times Scholastic finally 

agreed to publish her book.

Harry Potter was an instant hit all over Europe for adults 

and children alike. She soon became rich but was 

stunned by her sudden fame and tried to deny it for 

almost two years. 

However, this was not the kind of fame you could run 

from. She soon learned to accept her fame and was 

happily embraced by the writing community.

Soon Rowling was known all over the 

world for her amazing creation of the 

Harry Potter world. Rowling went on 

to write the rest of the 7 harry Potter 

books. She also assisted Warner 

Brothers Productions in the making of 

the movies.

After the her writing debue with the Harry 

Potter series Rowling continued to write. In all 

she has gotten 11 books published and plans 

on writing more.

J.K. Rowling became a billionaire after the 

Harry Potter series was over and done with. 

However after numerous large donations to 

several charities she became a millionaire.
