Health is the most precious thing that we have, that is why we have to do everything possible to keep it. Unfortunately, nowadays many people do not take care of their health. Very often they start realizing the value of health when they already have serious problems, when it is too late However, there are ways that can help us to prevent and avoid many health problems and maintain health for many years.
First of all, healthy style of life means refusal from harmful habits. They are the main factors that do not let our body implement its main function, to survive and keep the health and ability for work in the most unfavorable ecological conditions. The most harmful of our habits is obviously smoking and alcohol abuse.

One out of ten men in the world is a smoker and every 8 seconds someone dies because of this habit. According to the statistics, smoking kills around 5 million people a year. Nicotine in tobacco reaches the brain through blood stream just 10 seconds after a person starts smoking. Smoking influences different people in a different way. More than 40 diseases are associated with smoking; it increases the risk of cancer, bronchitis, heart diseases, etc. Nicotine decreases the oxygen carrying capacity of blood. The immune system of an active smoker is so bad that they take more time to recover from any disease.

Another bad habit is binge eating or a habit to overeat. Overeating is also not compatible with healthy style of life.
The habit to unlimited amount of food is extremely harmful. You should get rid of it if you want to lead healthy lifestyle and to keep your health till the old age. It is unacceptable due to several reasons. It is wrong to think that the only negative consequence of the habit to overeat is obesity. Unfortunately, extra weight (obesity) is just an external sign of the changes that happen in our body because of systematic binge eating. When we see a person with extra weight, we intuitively understand that his lifestyle is not healthy at all.
It’s very important to choose the right food nowadays. Healthy and balanced diet is useful for every person. We depend on food as well as the cars depend on gas, for example. It’s our natural fuel, which gives our body physical strength and health.

When the body is healthy, the mind will also be healthy. Different types of food contain different nutrients for our body. Some supply us with carbohydrates, some with proteins or fats, some with vitamins and minerals, etc. Many people think that fat is bad for people and they try to cut down on it. There is even a special line of products, called low-fat. The problem is that we do need some kinds of fat, but the saturated fats from animal products, like red meat, butter and cheese, can be really bad for health.

There is one more bad habit, the habit to inactive lifestyle. A sedentary lifestyle (physical inactivity) is the disease of the civilization. We do not move enough. All our organs and body in general suffer from this. We use cars. We sit at work. We lie at home on the couch returning after work.
