Eustace Scrubb and Jill Pole went to the same school in
England. The school constantly had a problem with
bullies, and they wished they could get away. Eustace told
Jill about his adventures in the land of Narnia, and how it
had changed him. So when the bullies found Eustace and
Jill behind the School, they ran for a door that opens out
onto the moor. Most of the time the door is locked, but this
time it wasn't, so they opened the door, and stepped into
Narnia.

When they got to Narnia, Jill and Eustace
were on top of a cliff, miles above the clouds.
Jill stood on the edge, showing off, and when
Eustace tried to pull her back, he fell over the
edge. A lion showed up, and blew Eustace to
safety. The lion then told Jill his name was
Aslan, and gave her specific instructions about
their quest in Narnia.

When Jill and Eustace arrived in Narnia,
they were told a story about the kings son.
Years ago Prince Rilian and his mother, the
queen, were on a hunting trip. While the queen
was resting, a snake bit her and she died. For
months after, Rilian went to the same spot to
look for the snake, and one day he never came
back.

Late that night, Jill and Eustace met with
the parliament of owls to discuss their plans
for rescuing the prince. The owls were not
willing to go on the actual journey, but they
decided they would help the children plan. The
owls also agreed to fly the children to the
northern end of Narnia, and a guide would help
them from there.

Jill, Eustace, and their new guide
Puddleglum set out on their adventure across
the northern lands. Puddleglum, a
Marshwiggle, is pessimistic by nature, and is
certain that they will not survive. Jill has been
repeating the signs that Aslan told her every
night, so that she will not forget them.

After weeks of traveling, the companions
come to a giant stone bridge, where they meet
a strange woman and a knight. The woman
tells them to go to the giant castle of Harfang,
and that the giants will be kind because the
travelers know her. Puddleglum doesn't trust
her, but the children think that it is a wonderful
idea.

The travelers arrived at the giant's city, and
told them of the lady who sent them. The
giants let them stay for days. The children and
Puddleglum eventually found out that the
giants were planning to eat them, so they
made an escape while the giants were out
hunting.
