Once upon a time, a group of people left their
home to live in a faraway land ruled by
Britain. The people were called colonists. The
colonists loved their new homeland, but many
were unhappy with the British government.
They thought the king was a selfish, cruel ruler.
Eventually, the colonists became angry with the
king and fought against him because he made
unfair rules. So they made the Declaration of
Independence, this gave the reasons why Americans
should be free.

In life, people thought everyone was the same. Some times it is okay to say some
things are better than others, but
when it comes to people, everyone is
equal, the King made laws so no one
follows the same rules and some
people can do more than others.

The colonists believe that the British government is notmaking everyone have the same rights. Men were allowed do
more things than women. No one believed this was fair.

The mean King is in charge of the government so he would not let them make any new rules that he didn't like.
No one liked the King because he didn't
do his job of listening to the citizens.

Hahaha!5
The government made a bad choice, but it's just because they don't understand how serious a problem is. When this happened,
they wrote papers, called petitions, with people's names who
agreed that the laws should be changed. It is the King's job to look
at the petition and think about how badly the citizens wanted the
change.
Petition for Freedom6

Sadly, the King won't even think about the citizens' ideas, he says no to all
of them even if they could solve problems.

NO!
Please? What if-7

After writing another petition, the Kingstill ignores his people. Everyone
became mad and argued that he was not
fit for a King.

The citizens have had enough, they finally decided to make one last paper and send it to the King of Britain. In the paper the
colonists wrote how America should not be controlled by Britain
and everyone should be equal. They titled the paper the
Declaration of Independence and signed their names like a
petition. After this important paper, the King realized how badly
they wanted this. Last of all, the King declared America a free
country. This is how freedom came to the United States of
America.
