Tagus is the largest river in the Iberian Peninsula. It is born in the Sierra of
Albarracín, at 1593 meters height, and it crosses the Spanish regions (provinces) of Castela, Nova and Estremadura.
It flows into the Atlantic Ocean, bathing Lisbon, after a course of about 1007 km.
Vila Velha de Ródão welcomes the river by opening its doors with a close and tight hug in the Portas de Ródão.

The Tagus ends up in an estuary of about 260 km2 that forms the “Mar da Palha”, narrowing itself at about 10 km from the mouth.
On the right bank of the Tagus estuary lies the city of Lisbon and on the left bank, the South Bank, is where our cities, Amora and Seixal, are located.
Once upon a time there were three brothers, three rivers. That day there were many clouds. The river Douro, who was very curious, decided to ask his brothers:
Douro: How do you think clouds are formed?
Tagus: The clouds come from the sea.
Guadiana: And where is the sea?
Tagus: It’s in Portugal.
Guadiana and Douro: Is it long?
Tagus: Yes, it is quite long – answered the Tagus.
Guadiana: I’m going to propose you something. Why don’t we go look at the ocean!
Tagus and Guadiana: Okay.
The legend of the three rivers
The Guadiana, who was the earliest to wake up, woke up, stretched, rubbed his eyes, and left on his way. Meanwhile, the Tagus woke up and left as well. Not sure where to go, however, he stopped and noticed that he had arrived in Portugal. He thought he had advanced a lot, so he began to slow down and took the opportunity to see the landscape during his trip.
After a while, the Douro woke up and realized, when he opened up his eyes, that he was alone. He left quickly so as not to take too long and chose the shortest, and most dangerous, path.

Tagus Canoes
The wind blows in the cliffs ,
The sun looks like a strawberry,
And the Tagus dances with the waves
Rehearsing a folk dance
Canoe,
You know well
When there is North wind from the bow,
How many docks are there in Lisbon,
And the walls that exist
