"Good morning class!" Mrs. Mouse said."Good morning Mrs. Mouse" said the students.
"Today we are going to talk about technology!" Mrs. Mouse squeaked.
"What about technology?" Duckie replied.
"Well..." Mrs. Mouse began "I want you to tell me what you think. First I will ask a
question about technology, then I want you to take notes on your tablet about your
initial thoughts to the question. Lastly I will ask you to share your thoughts with
the class. The first question is: how do technology tools improve communication
between teachers and students, parents or peers? Think about the question and
take notes!"

"Claws what are your thoughts on the question how can technology tools improve communication between teachers and students, parents or peers?
asked Mrs. Mouse.
"I think that technology tools allow students and teachers to communicate
in ways other than just inside of school. This is helpful because it provides
students with resources that they may not otherwise have. If, for example,
I need help on a homework problem I could ask by e-mail or some other online
communication source. This improves communication because it extends what
we learn in class beyond just the classroom." Claws said.
"Piggy what do you think?" asked Mrs. Mouse.
"I know that my parents work all of the time and they don't get to pick me up
from class or ask you questions. I know that the website you created improves
how my parents communicate with you because they have access to important
information that way. They are also able to stay up to date on important events
and other things like that. I see technology improving how parents and teachers
communicate because they can stay in contact at all times, even during the
day." said Piggy.

"Great responses!" Mrs. Mouse squeaked. "Now for the next question we will use our clickers first. The question is: can these tools hinder communication
efforts? A is yes and B is no. You may begin to click now. I see that everyone
answered yes. My next question is how can these tools hinder communication
efforts? For this next part we will get into a circle and use our tablets again."

"Now, I set up a Google document and I want you all to share your thoughts on that. After we will discuss as a large group," said Mrs. Mouse. "Whiskers,
how do you think that these tools hinder communication efforts?"
"Well," Whiskers said "I think that even though there are great new ways
to communicate with people, these limit face-to-face interactions. Sometimes
it may be easier for people to e-mail and people become accustomed to that.
Therefore they are less likely to go and talk to someone in person. This hinders
the development of communication skills."
"Tusks, what are your thought?" asked Mrs. Mouse.
"Another way that all of these new technology tools hinder communication
efforts is that some people don't have access to technology at home. Therefore
they are unable to use technology outside of the class and it is harder for them
and for their parents to get in touch with teachers and peers. It puts people
who don't have access at a disadvantage to communicating via the Internet or
other technologies," replied Tusks.
"Great! Now take some time to get into groups for our next activity,"
Mrs. Mouse said.
