“Mommy, I don’t want to go to dance today!” I yelled with my hands on my
hips.
“But, Honey, you LOVE to dance; I don’t understand!” my mom seemed
confused and had crinkles on her forehead and one eyebrow risen.
“I love to dance but not when she’s in my class!” I said as I threw my
hands in the air.
“Who Sweetie, whose in your class?” says mom rolling her eyes.
“Only the greatest dancer in my entire class, ROBERTA! I WANT TO BE
LIKE HER, MOMMY!”
I just want to cry when I think of how good she is.
“Now, Priscilla, I’ve told you before that you are an amazing dancer!”
Mom says.

“Princess, you are going to look like a star on stage no matter what; I can just see
it already!” says Mom
“You Promise, Mommy?” I said while I prayed mom really means what she
says.
“PROMISE!” she says while she grabs me and kisses my forehead.
“Now, let’s go, you’re going to be late, and don’t forget your dance bag!”
shouts mom from across the living room.
I thought as I walked up the steps: what does she have that I don’t.
Short blonde, straight hair that flows freely, a pretty smile, and the best dance
moves in the class OF COURSE!
I wish I didn’t have braces; maybe I would look better on stage without them.

I grab my bag from my bed and walk downstairs with my head down. I hear a
loud horn.
HONK, HONK! “Priscilla, LETS GO, YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE THERE
FIVE MINUTES AGO” I heard my Mom say from my kitchen.
“I’m COMING!” I shout while I run through my house.
I hopped right into the backseat of the minivan.
“Honey, you have to remember it’s important to be on time, especially for dance;
you know Miss Natalie likes when you all come early.” Mom reminds me.
“I know, I know, Mom. Also, when am I getting my braces off?”
“Priscilla, you just got them on. It won’t be for at least a few years. Why?” Mom
looks at me through the mirror.
“I’m just wondering. Okay we’re here, got to go, love you!” I jumped out of
Mom’s van as fast as I could.
“Bye Honey, have fun!”

“Kick, ball, change, and one and two and three and four; you girls look wonderful,
great form, Roberta!” I hear Miss Natalie from down the hall; of course, she’s
telling Roberta how good she is.
I hurry into class while the girls are all practicing our routine. As I walk in,
everybody stops dancing and they were suddenly silent, while the music is still
playing.
“Well, hello, Priscilla, I was wondering where you were today; come join us!”
Miss Natalie said.
“Hey Priscilla, you’re next to me for the recital now, instead of in the back,” says
Roberta.
“Really? Okay, thank you” I said while, I could not believe my ears.

“Okay Girls, I want to run the routine a few more times today because the big day
is tomorrow!” says Miss Natalie while she claps her hands.
One hour felt like a decade, I can finally tell mom the great news! I run out to
Mom’s van.
“Hey Honey! How did it go?”
“Mommy you won’t believe it. I’m dancing next to Roberta in the front row for
our dance recital!”
“Aw, Sweetie that’s great news, SEE! You’re an amazing dancer!” Mom says.
We walk into the house and I am jumping as I sprint up the stairs and practice
the routine once again in my room.
Now, I can go to sleep knowing that I will be in the front and center, where
everyone can see me perform on stage!
