Portugal Christmas Customs
In Portugal, on Christmas Eve, December 24, the cod cooked with cabbage is eaten, and desserts are various traditional sweets.
On Christmas Day, December 25, lunch is special, Peru is made with the famous sausages and meats.

Rice pudding is a typical Christmas dessert, traditionally cooked in milk and sugar.
KING CAKE
The cake of kings or Christmas cake is a festive crown shaped cake that is part of the Portuguese tradition.
And that is typically eaten in the Christmas Court and Kings Day. His name alludes to the three wise men.

Golden bread slices is a sweet sliced wheat bread that, after being soaked in milk, wine or sugar syrup, are passed through eggs and fried or baked. This slices are part of many Christmas tables in Portugal.

A Portuguese gastronomic speciality. It is made with
flour and eggs, sometimes also with pumpkin and
orange zest, fried in olive oil, or other vegetable oils.

Azevia is a sweet fried typical of Portugal, originating in alentejo, where it is traditionally served at Christmas time.

In Portugal, the tradition of opening presents is from midnight
from December 24th to December 25th.

The Presents
The “Missa do Galo” is the name given by Catholics to the Mass celebrated on Christmas Eve. It starts at midnight from the 24th to the 25th of December. The expression “Missa do Galo” is specific to Latin countries, according to legend, at midnight on December 24th a rooster would have crowed loudly, as never heard of another similar animal, announcing the birth of Jesus Christ.

Christmas Eve
Christmas Eve dinner in Lithuania, held on the twenty fourth of December. The meal is a family occasion that includes many traditions of both pagan and Christian origin. On Christmas Eve Lithuanians have 12 different dishes. The dishes should be simple as well without meat. The most important dish of the evening- Kūčiukai. The Kučiūkai- are bite sized biscuits with poppy seeds and served with freshly made poppy milk that are only eaten during the Christmas season.

After a calm dinner, the funnier part starts. To throw lots after the Christmas Eve's dinner is the outcome of paganism, but still widely used and popular among Lithuanians. Remember that hay under the tablecloth - every person has to pull out one piece of hay - the longest you have the longer you will live. To get to know if you will get married or not, with closed eyes you have to grab a palmful of Kūčiukai - the twisted number means the upcoming weddings.



Christmas superstition
Also, the most widely used and known superstition about the Christmas Eve is that in the midnight the animals start to talk among each other with human voices and if someone hears that, they won’t live long anymore.
Christmas Customs in Lithuania
Following the peaceful Christmas Eve and magical night, comes the joyous, happy and generous Christmas Day (December 25-26). Under the Christmas tree in every house, the big and little ones find Christmas gifts, noses are tickled by the scents of meat dishes and traditional cakes, and the doorbell announces the arrival of guests – it’s time to celebrate the most important festival of the year! The Christmas spirit permeates every home, the streets and squares, where many concerts, performances, events for the whole family take place.

Christmas is a wonderful holiday, it’s a feast of Christ’s birth and it’s celebrated on the eve of 7th of January.
The evening before is called the Holy Evening. It is the family holiday. There are many old Ukrainian traditions that are connected with Christmas. Among them are Christmas songs and traditional Christmas dishes.
