We dedicate this book to all the crazy people aka. Sophia and Becca

Hello Earthlings!
Which country are you from?

We are from the United States.
That brings back so many memories. You know the United states were not always united, each state wanted different things.

What do you mean? Was there not a Constitution?

No there wasn't. After the Revolutionary war was won, the new states were free from Great Britain's rule. But as a new Country they needed new rules, so that's when the Articles of Confederation were created.

The Articles of the Confederation was the first constitution that was written for the United states. It was Written in 1777. But it was not approved until March 1, 1781. With this kept the states independent and gave congress most of the power.

WOW

We had no idea!!

The Articles of Confederation are made up of different sections. Each Sections covers how the new nation will be formed and governed.

Article One: states that the name of confederacy shall be called"The United States of America".
Article Two: states that each state will uphold its sovereignty, freedom, and independence.
Article Three: states that each state will have a friendship between one another. To help and support other states.
The Last Article states that every state shall obey the goals of the united states when the congress is assembled. The Articles can not be changed unless all states legislatures agree when doing so.

State Power: The states within the colonies had more power then the national government itself. States had the power to tax and congress could raise money, but not without asking the states for funds first.
National Power: Had the power to ask for money from the states and make appreciations to give the states protection.

But didn't the Articles have failure? What about Shay's Rebellion or having no taxes?
Shay's Rebellion was an uprising of farmers who were upset about the taxes. The on growing dept was getting out of hand. The congress had littler power, they couldn't even draft solider or regulate trade.

We are going back in time to watch the Constitution be constructed.

1787

Welcome to Earth the year of 1787 when the Constitution convention was happening.
First Day

The Constitutional Convention took place on May 14, 1787 to September 17, 1787 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. These men took part in the Convention; James Madison, Benjamin Frankland, Alexander Hamiltion, John Jay, Rufus King, and George Mason. Only 55 out of the 70 dedicates showed up. Everyone that showed up wanted the United States to become perfect with change. To make a new power structure to the U.S.
Hundredth Day
The end result of the new found constitution was the still used and looked up to U.S constitution of the United State of America. They perfected what they thought would be the best way to regulate a grow country and it stuck.

WE DID IT!!

The Anti-Federalist are people that don't support the constitution nor the checks and balances. They think change is bad and not good for the United States. Anti-Fed's support is around the Article of confederations. They call for the bill of rights. Most people recognize them as; Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, and George Mason. These are the founding authors of the "brutus", a line of Anti Feds papers explaining their opinion on the new constitution.

Federalist are people that support the constitution and they support checks and balances and thought they would slove most of Americas problems. They also thought that a national government is necessary to help society. People who are concerted to be Antifederalists are Alexander Hamiliton, Governer Morris, James Madison, and John Jay.

Here's a quote from the Federlist papers: "In the course of the preceding observations, I have had an eye, my fellow-citizens, to putting you upon your guard against all attempts, from whatever quarter, to influence your decision in a matter of the utmost moment to your welfare, by any impressions other than those which may result from the evidence of truth."

Weren't there some disagreements?

Yes!! Two groups were formed: the Feds and the Anti-Feds
